Systems Requirements Engineer

Role Summary

The Systems Requirements Engineer is responsible for eliciting, analyzing, documenting, managing, and maintaining system requirements throughout the product development lifecycle. This role ensures stakeholder needs are translated into clear, complete, verifiable, and traceable system requirements that guide design, implementation, verification, and validation activities. The engineer collaborates across multiple engineering disciplines to deliver high-quality products while maintaining compliance with organizational and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements Development

  • Capture stakeholder, customer, regulatory, and business requirements.
  • Develop high-quality system requirements using established requirements engineering best practices.
  • Ensure requirements are clear, complete, consistent, feasible, testable, and traceable.
  • Define requirement acceptance criteria, verification methods, and operating conditions.

Requirements Analysis & Decomposition

  • Analyze customer needs and convert them into system features and requirements.
  • Perform requirements decomposition and allocation to subsystems and components.
  • Support system architecture development and ensure requirement alignment.
  • Identify gaps, conflicts, assumptions, and dependencies.

Traceability Management

  • Establish and maintain bidirectional traceability from:
    • Customer Needs / VoC
    • Features
    • System Requirements
    • Architecture Elements
    • Verification & Validation Activities
  • Manage traceability throughout the development lifecycle.

Verification & Validation Support

  • Define verification methods (Test, Analysis, Inspection, Demonstration).
  • Support development of verification plans and test cases.
  • Ensure requirements are measurable and verifiable.

Change Management

  • Support Change Request (CR) management and impact analysis.
  • Assess technical, schedule, cost, and risk impacts.
  • Maintain requirements baselines and configuration control.

Process Compliance

  • Support compliance with ASPICE, Functional Safety, Cybersecurity, and organizational development processes.
  • Participate in audits and process assessments.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.

Education

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in:
    • Systems Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • Software Engineering
    • Related Engineering Discipline

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Systems Engineering or related field.
  • ASPICE Assessor or Process Training.
  • Functional Safety (ISO 26262) knowledge.
  • MBSE certification or training.

Qualifications

Technical Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of requirements engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience with requirements decomposition and allocation.
  • Ability to write measurable and verifiable requirements.
  • Understanding of system architecture and interfaces.
  • Familiarity with verification and validation methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Configuration Management and Change Management.
  • Experience with requirement quality standards and reviews.
  • Understanding of risk and impact assessment processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASPICE SYS.1, SYS.2, SYS.3, SYS.4, SYS 11, SYS12 knowledge.
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Functional Safety (ISO 26262).
  • Cybersecurity requirements development.

Tool Experience

Experience with one or more:

  • Polarion
  • PTC RV&S
  • MATLAB/Simulink
  • J1939 Tools †CAN message knowledge
