As a Systems Engineer in Optical Networks, you will translate customer needs into technical requirements, collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate features, support documentation and issue resolution, and contribute to SDN controller specifications while driving innovation in optical transport systems and network automation.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AND WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
- Write and maintain system requirements and external interface specifications.
- Analyse customer features and capture business, operational, technical, and non-functional requirements.
- Contribute to feasibility studies and assess the impact of new feature implementations.
- Align with architects, developers, and validation teams to ensure requirements are implemented accurately.
- Provide timely responses to feature definition and requirements clarification questions from development teams.
- Interface with product management and architects to define and refine appropriate solutions.
- Support customer interactions and documentation as a technical expert
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems engineering processes and tools.
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
You have:
- Graduate or Postgraduate in Engineering with a specialization in telecommunications, networking, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in optical networking, focusing on transmission technologies such as WDM, OTN, and Ethernet.
- Strong understanding of network management interfaces like SNMP, Netconf/Yang, CLI, and TL1, with skills to enhance existing models.
- Experience working with industry standards and recommendations from ITU-T, IEEE, and IETF.
It would be nice if you also had:
- Hands-on experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS, HP ALM, and R4J, along with version control tools like Git/Gerrit.
- Familiarity with alarm management and performance monitoring processes as defined by ITU-T standards.
- Knowledge of security best practices in the development lifecycle, ensuring compliance from definition to verification.
- Strong analytical skills, a proactive approach, and excellent communication to collaborate in multi-site, multi-cultural teams.
