About the role

The Systems Engineer
II for Database operations is a is an individual contributor role and the
person is expected to work on incident, problem, and change request to support
the database platforms across public and private cloud. Systems Engineering is
a core capability for Tesco Technology, and this position is critical for
shaping the engineering culture as we grow. The role will be serving as a core
member of an agile team that support the Database Platform Availability and
future automations in Tesco. This role is also providing operational assistance
and guidance for SQL Server and PostgreSQL platform including monitoring, management,
disaster recovery, security compliance/auditing, performance, Backup/Recovery and
high availability.

You will be responsible for

As a Systems Engineer II for Database platform, I will:


Owning the
accountability of database support and administration effectively, efficiently
and independently


Plan/perform tasks
related to installation and configuration, performance tuning, backup,
recovery, security, patching, upgrades and high availability


Resolve moderate to
complex (P1 and P2) incidents and problems effectively in a timely manner


Providing 24X7
production support as needed and available for escalations


Accountable for
performing root cause analysis, long term fix, service improvements and
providing technical solutions


Accountable for
design and implementation of medium to complex components of a project module,
change requests.


Responsible for
providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed
decisions


Working in a cross-cultural
team and communicate effectively with team and stake holders


Mentoring and
guiding junior team members

Automation experience in the database support
structure


Good team player and
willingness to explore and learn new areas/technologies.

Flexible to work in shifts.


Focussed on delivering
scalable performant database platforms that underpin our customer data services
in a dynamic and fast-moving agile engineering environment.


Experience with
different types of enterprise application databases (PostgreSQL a must)


Familiar with
developing in a Cloud environment (AWS RDS, DMS & DevOps highly desirable).


Proficient using SQL
to interrogate, analyse and report on customer data and interactions on live
systems and in testing environments.


Proficient using
PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL



You will need

I should have hands-on experience in


Expertise in
managing multiple MS SQL2008/R2/2012/2014/2016/2017/2019 and PostgreSQL RDBMS
on medium to large systems


Good knowledge of
Windows OS and its related commands


Good knowledge of
T-SQL and query tuning


High availability
features Mirroring, replication and clustering


Good analytical
skills


Ability to work with
Cloud (IaaS & PaaS), Cloud technologies


Good team player and
willingness to explore and learn new areas/technologies


Work as a subject
matter expert


Train and
technically scale up team members


Performing tasks
related to installation and configuration, performance tuning, backup,
recovery, security, patching, upgrades and high availability.


Good knowledge on
backend programming.


Good exposure on
skills like Terraform, Ansible, Git, Jenkins.

Qualifications:


Graduation/Post
Graduation.


Minimum 8-15 years
of technology experience
