Legacy Systems Engineer (Classic ASP)
Engagement: 12-Month Contract
Location: Remote
Focus: 80% Documentation & Code Analysis / 20% Maintenance
Exp: 8-10 Years
The Role
You will be the knowledge bridge for a Canadian B2B SaaS company transitioning a 20-year-old furniture retail platform to a modern C# microservices architecture. Your mission is to systematically document deep business logic within a legacy Classic ASP environment to ensure no critical data or workflows are lost during migration.
Must-Haves (Technical)
- Classic ASP Reading Proficiency: Absolute ability to read, comprehend, and validate VBScript-based Classic ASP code.
- SQL Mastery: Strong ability to read complex database queries and map intricate table relationships.
- Legacy Analysis: Proven experience in maintenance, debugging, or migration of 10+ year-old codebases.
- AI Tooling Comfort: Ability to work alongside AI tools to generate and then manually verify documentation accuracy.
- GitHub: Experience using GitHub for documentation management and version control.
Basic Requirements
- Methodical Mindset: High attention to detail; you prefer precise analysis over rapid greenfield development.
- Communication: Strong English skills (7/10+ written and verbal) to document business logic clearly.
- Independence: Ability to maintain consistent output and meet documentation milestones without close supervision.
- Education/Experience: 6+ years in software development with a clear history of supporting legacy systems.
