Job Description

Job Requirements

System Engineer Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for Embedded Systems

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled System Engineer to design, develop, and deploy Automated Test Equipment (ATE) solutions for embedded systems. The role involves building hardwareintheloop (HIL) setups, creating test frameworks, and integrating opensource microcontrollers such as STM32, TI C2000/TI multicore processors, and similar platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong embedded domain knowledge, hands-on hardware experience, and solid software engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

ATE Development

  • Design and develop ATE systems for validating embedded hardware and firmware.
  • Build modular, scalable test platforms using open-source microcontrollers (STM32, TI multicore, ESP32, etc.).
  • Develop HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) test setups for functional, regression, and performance testing.
  • Implement signal conditioning, load simulation, power monitoring, and sensor/actuator emulation in the ATE.

Embedded Integration

  • Develop firmware for multi core platforms such as STM32/TI platforms used in ATE controllers.
  • Integrate SPI, IC, UART, CAN, Ethernet, profinet, ADC, DAC and other interfaces into test hardware.
  • Work with embedded product teams to understand requirements and define test strategies.

Software & Automation

  • Develop test automation frameworks using Python, C/C++, or LabVIEW (if used).
  • Implement test scripts, result logging, data visualization, and test orchestration.
  • Automate board bring-up tests, calibration, and production test sequences.

Hardware Development

  • Design custom ATE PCBs and interface boards (if required).
  • Select components, manage hardware integration, and work with vendors for fabrication.
  • Perform debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG/SWD tools.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Create detailed ATE architecture documents, schematics, and test procedures.
  • Ensure ATE complies with safety, EMC, and regulatory standards based on product domain.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with firmware, hardware, product validation, and manufacturing teams.
  • Provide technical guidance during NPI (New Product Introduction) for production test setup.

Work Experience

Technical Skills

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Embedded Systems Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded systems development
  • Strong experience with STM32, TI C2000, TI multicore DSP/MCU, or similar microcontrollers.
  • Proficiency in:
  • Embedded C/C++
  • Python for automation
  • RTOS concepts
  • Communication protocols (CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, LIN, Modbus, Ethernet)
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, power supplies
  • JTAG/SWD debugging tools
  • PCB design (Altium/KiCad good to have)

Knowledge Areas

  • ATE system design
  • HIL simulation frameworks
  • Signal conditioning and sensor emulation
  • Firmware validation methodologies
  • Production test process and reliability testing

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and debugging skills.
  • Good communication and documentation ability.
  • Ability to work independently and lead ATE development end-to-end.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience developing ATE for automotive, industrial, or consumer devices.
  • Familiarity with NI LabVIEW, TestStand, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Experience in DFT (Design for Test) and production test optimization.
  • Knowledge of safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508) depending on domain.
