Job Description

Summary

The Technical Lead (Architect) serves as a senior technical authority responsible for the strategic design, modernization, and lifecycle management of enterprise virtualization and compute infrastructure. This is a hands-on leadership role that drives the architecture and delivery of hybrid, hyperconverged, and cloud-integrated platforms. You will bridge the gap between business requirements and technical execution, leading complex modernization initiatives while mentoring Global Server Administration teams and ensuring enterprise-grade scalability, resiliency, and performance across Nutanix, VMware, and Hyper-V environments.

Detailed Description

  • Strategic Architecture: Lead the development of target-state platform architectures, defining standards for Nutanix virtualization, disaster recovery (DR), and high availability (HA).

  • Infrastructure Transformation: Architect and execute large-scale migrations, specifically focusing on transitioning legacy virtualization (VMware) to modern Nutanix HCI ecosystems.

  • Technical Leadership: Act as a senior escalation point and primary advisor for complex compute and virtualization challenges. Provide oversight for design reviews, proof-of-concepts (POCs), and technical governance.

  • Operations & Engineering: Define engineering standards and operational best practices. Drive the adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation frameworks (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell) to shift toward self-healing, as-code infrastructure models.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with storage, networking, and application owners to ensure platform capabilities align with business objectives, EMR/EHR dependencies (if applicable), and security compliance.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Prepare and deliver executive-level presentations, articulating technology strategy, risks, trade-offs, and modernization roadmaps to senior leadership and Architecture Review Boards.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Core Expertise: Deep expertise in enterprise virtualization platforms, specifically Nutanix (AOS, AHV, Prism), VMware vSphere/vCenter, and Microsoft Hyper-V.

  • Architecture Proficiency: Strong understanding of HCI architecture, converged infrastructure, storage (SAN), and hybrid cloud integration.

  • Automation: Proven proficiency in automation scripting and orchestration tools (PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or Terraform).

  • Soft Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and manage stakeholder relationships under pressure.

  • Certifications: Active Nutanix certifications (NCP, NCM, NCA), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or equivalent.

  • Ecosystem Knowledge: Experience with Nutanix DR solutions (Leap, replication), Prism Central, and modern data center tools (Device42, ServiceNow).

  • Hybrid/Cloud: Experience integrating on-premises infrastructure with public cloud (Azure/AWS) and managing hybrid identity/compute patterns.

  • Compliance: Familiarity with operating in regulated environments (e.g., healthcare/financial services) and infrastructure security hardening.

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.

Typical Experience

Experience: 15+ years in infrastructure architecture, platform engineering, or senior IT leadership roles within large enterprise environments.

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Educational requirements may vary by geography.
