Position Summary
The Citrix & Azure Virtual Desktop Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, support, and maintenance of enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) platforms, including Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
This role manages both on-premises and Azure cloud infrastructure, supporting secure remote access, application delivery, and enterprise desktop virtualization environments. The administrator ensures systems are secure, highly available, and optimized for performance.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with Citrix technologies, Azure infrastructure, and Citrix NetScaler (Citrix ADC).
Key Responsibilities
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (Citrix & AVD)
- Administer and support Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) environments.
- Manage Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) host pools, session hosts, and application groups.
- Maintain Citrix Delivery Controllers, StoreFront, Gateway, and Licensing services.
- Manage machine catalogs, delivery groups, and VDI session hosts.
- Build and maintain gold images for Citrix and AVD environments.
- Monitor environment performance and troubleshoot user session issues.
- Perform patching, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance for VDI platforms.
Citrix NetScaler / Citrix ADC
- Administer and maintain Citrix NetScaler (Citrix ADC) appliances.
- Configure and support:
- Citrix Gateway
- Load balancing
- SSL certificates
- Authentication policies
- Secure remote access
- Troubleshoot connectivity, authentication, and performance issues related to NetScaler.
- Maintain high availability configurations and monitor appliance health.
Azure Cloud Administration
- Manage Azure infrastructure supporting VDI environments.
- Administer:
- Azure Virtual Machines
- Azure networking
- Azure storage
- Azure identity services
- Deploy and manage resources using:
- Azure Portal
- Azure CLI
- PowerShell
- Maintain Azure security policies and resource governance.
Systems Administration
- Administer Windows Server infrastructure.
- Maintain Active Directory, Group Policy, and DNS services.
- Manage patching, updates, and system configuration.
- Support virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Ensure system backups and disaster recovery readiness.
User Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide Tier 2 / Tier 3 support for Citrix and infrastructure platforms.
- Troubleshoot:
- Citrix session issues
- Azure Virtual Desktop connectivity problems
- NetScaler remote access issues
- Application publishing problems
- Work with help desk and engineering teams to resolve incidents.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Required Experience
- 35+ years administering Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops
- Experience with Azure infrastructure
- Experience managing Azure Virtual Desktop
- Experience administering Citrix NetScaler / Citrix ADC
- Strong Windows Server and Active Directory administration experience

- Experience with Citrix Cloud or Citrix DaaS
- Experience with FSLogix profile management
- Experience managing VDI golden images
- Experience with Azure automation and infrastructure scripting
- Experience with load balancing and secure application delivery
