Job Description

Overview

Principal Engineer Is responsible forowning one or more technology domains or products, leading engineering team memebers to deliversecure, scalable, and high‑quality solutions that support business objectives. This role translates enterprise strategy into execution, balances delivery with technical excellence, and partners closely with Product, Architecture, Security, and Business stakeholders.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Create the vision and guide a team of engineers to build and support digital products and services (TS&EP) across S&T core priorities
  • Drive partnerships with User Experience, Product Management, IT, Data & Analytics, Emerging Tech, Innovation, and Process Engineering teams to deliver the Digital Products portfolio
  • Develop software development strategy utilizingindustry standards. Create roadmap and timing of implementation of the roadmap based on business requirements and strategy.
  • Lead multi-discipline, high-performance work teams distributed across remote locations effectively. Build, manage, develop, and mentor a team of engineers.
  • Develop and expand DPS capabilities through a customer obsessed, services-driven digital solutions platform that leveragesdata and AI to deliver automated and personalized experiences
  • Manage and appropriately escalate delivery impediments, risks, issues, and changes tied to the engineering initiatives to the stakeholders
  • Interact with key business partners to recommend solutions that best meet the strategic needs of the business

Responsibilities

Technology & Delivery Ownership

  • Own delivery and operational accountability for assigned applications, platforms, integrations, or services
  • Translate business needs into technical roadmaps and execution plans
  • Ensure solutions meet enterprise standards (architecture, security, compliance, performance)
  • Drive modernization, resilience, and technical debt reduction
  • Handon coding to pick up equal share to contribute to code and projects

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead a team of engineers, contractors, or system integrators
  • Provide technical direction, code quality oversight, and design review governance
  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices (CI/CD, testing, observability, secure coding)
  • Balance speed of delivery with long‑term maintainability

Stakeholder & Cross‑Functional Partnership

  • Partner with Product Managers, Architects, Security, Infrastructure, and Vendors
  • Communicate risks, tradeoffs, and progress clearly to leadership
  • Support portfolio prioritization and roadmap alignment

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure availability, performance, and supportability of production systems
  • Own incident awareness, root‑cause remediation, and continuous improvement
  • Support audits, compliance requirements, and enterprise reviews

Financial & Resource Management

  • Manage vendor resource allocation
  • Forecast capacity and skill needs to meet roadmap commitments
  • Drive cost optimization through architecture and delivery efficiencies

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ABachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant software development and engineering management experience
  • 3+ years experience managing developers with 1+ years of managing multiple managers/teams
  • Commanding knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design
  • Working knowledge of programming languages - Java and JavaScript
  • Working knowledge of BackEndandFrontEndFrameworks - Spring/SpringBoot/React/React Nativeand NodeJS ecosystem
  • Drive Best Practices of Code Reviews, Design Reviews, Architecture Reviews
  • Metrics-backed decisions during all phases of SDLC
  • Experience with Azure (preferred), Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services and cloud specific PaaS and SaaS solutions

  • Ability to work collaboratively with regional and global partners in other functional units
  • Ability to navigate a complex organization and to influence and lead people across cultures at a senior level
  • Working knowledge of Cloud Native Development including concepts of Message Queues, Distributed Caching, Load Balancing, RDBMS, NoSQL, REST API'S, etc.
  • Deep knowledge of design patterns, architecture patterns
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with global teams.
