Work Location: Gandikota Andhra Pradesh
Purpose
To ensure that all project components—civil, hydro‑mechanical (HM), and electro‑mechanical (EM)—are constructed with accurate geo-spatial control, correct levels, alignments, and coordinates, and strict adherence to design tolerances. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the survey control network, ensuring positional accuracy for all underground, overground, and HM installations throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities of Role
1. Establish and Maintain Survey Control Network
- Create and verify horizontal and vertical control points across the entire project area.
- Establish permanent benchmarks for all critical structures (dam, tunnels, pressure shaft, caverns, powerhouse).
- Maintain accuracy and stability of control stations throughout the project duration.
2. Setting-Out for All Civil, Hydro-Mechanical & EM Works
- Provide accurate setting-out for:
- Dam and spillway structures
- Intake, HRT, TRT, adits
- Surge shaft, pressure shaft/tunnel
- Powerhouse and transformer cavern
- Penstock alignment
- Ensure construction matches the design coordinates, alignments, levels and profiles.
3. Underground Works Alignment & Monitoring
- Conduct:
- Tunnel alignment checks
- Deformation monitoring (convergence measurements)
- Overbreak–underbreak evaluation
- Crown, wall, and invert position verification
- Ensure breakthrough of tunnels from multiple headings occurs within tolerance.
4. Support for Hydro-Mechanical & EM Equipment Installation
- Provide accurate alignment for:
- Penstocks, steel liners, bifurcations
- Turbine runner, draft tube, spiral case
- Generator stator, rotor centreline
- EOT cranes and monorails
- Maintain high precision as required by OEMs.
5. Topographic & As-Built Surveys
- Conduct detailed surveys for:
- Excavation quantities
- Valley, river, and hill terrains
- Underground cavity mapping
- Penstock and pipeline routing
- Prepare as-built drawings for all completed works.
6. Quantity & Progress Verification
- Measure:
- Earthwork volumes
- Rock excavation
- Backfilling
- Concrete quantities
- Support billing verification for contractors and subcontractors.
7. Geodetic and Structural Monitoring
- Monitor movement/settlement of:
- Dam body
- Powerhouse
- Pressure shaft
- Underground tunnels
- Detect and flag any unusual displacement to engineering or safety teams.
8. Calibration & Instrument Management
- Ensure all survey instruments are:
- Calibrated
- Maintained
- Functioning accurately
- Manage modern equipment like total stations, DGPS, LiDAR, tunnel profilers.
9. Compliance with Codes, Safety & Standards
- Ensure all survey works comply with:
- BIS/IS standards
- Project-specific tolerances
- OEM guidelines for machinery alignment
- Maintain safety procedures in:
- Underground areas
- Steep terrains
- Restricted zones
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Civil Eng. will be an added advantage.
- Well versed in operating AutoCAD, 3D and other related software tools.
- 10-15 years of experience in underground survey for hydropower/ PSP projects.
