Job Description

Industry: Healthcare — Surgical Gastroenterology & Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery sector. We are hiring on-site in India for a senior clinical role delivering high-quality surgical and endoscopic care for complex gastrointestinal conditions, cancer surgery, and emergency GI interventions. This role suits surgeons experienced in advanced endoscopy and minimally invasive GI surgery looking to drive clinical excellence and multidisciplinary outcomes.

Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist

Role & Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive on-site surgical and endoscopic care for benign and malignant GI conditions, including pre-op evaluation, operative management, and post-op follow-up.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures (EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP) and advanced interventions (EMR/ESD) with adherence to safety and quality protocols.
  • Lead minimally invasive and open GI surgeries—colorectal, foregut, hepatopancreatobiliary procedures—ensuring evidence-based perioperative management and enhanced recovery pathways.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care by participating in tumor boards, collaborating with gastroenterology, oncology, radiology, and critical care teams to plan individualized treatment strategies.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation, contribute to morbidity & mortality reviews, implement quality improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with clinical governance and infection-control standards.
  • Mentor junior surgeons and trainees, contribute to training sessions, and support clinical audits or research projects to advance departmental capabilities.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Must-Have
  • Proven technical proficiency in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (EGD and colonoscopy)
  • Hands-on experience with ERCP
  • Expertise in EMR or ESD techniques
  • Competence in laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery
  • Clinical experience managing complex HPB conditions and GI oncology cases
  • Strong perioperative decision-making and emergency GI bleed management skills
  • Preferred
  • Fellowship training in Advanced Endoscopy or Hepatopancreatobiliary surgery
  • Experience in minimally invasive colorectal or foregut surgery programs
  • Prior involvement in clinical research or structured quality-improvement projects

Qualifications

  • MD/MS in Surgery with MCh/DNB in Surgical Gastroenterology or equivalent (expected/required by employer).
  • Valid Indian medical registration and current clinical privileges for surgical and endoscopic procedures.
  • Demonstrable procedure logbook and references verifying independent operative and endoscopic competence.
