Description
The Surgery Coder/QA will be responsible for accurately coding surgical procedures and performing quality assurance checks on coded data to ensure compliance with coding standards and regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical terminology and coding guidelines, along with the ability to analyze medical documentation.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze surgical documentation to ensure accurate coding and compliance with coding guidelines.
- Perform quality assurance checks on coded data to verify accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to clarify any discrepancies in documentation.
- Stay updated on the latest coding regulations, guidelines, and procedures related to surgery.
- Provide training and support to junior coders and staff as needed.
- Prepare reports on coding audits and quality assurance findings.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proficient in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Strong understanding of surgical terminology and procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding.
- Ability to analyze complex medical information and translate it into appropriate codes.
- Strong communication skills for interaction with medical staff and team members.
- Certification in Medical Coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is mandatory.
- Proficient in using coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
