Job Purpose/ Summary
The Senior Engineer SMS AOD is responsible for ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality steel production through effective operation and control of the AOD converter process. The role oversees process parameters, metallurgical quality, equipment performance, and production targets, while driving continuous improvement, minimizing downtime, and ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards. The position also provides technical guidance to operators, supports troubleshooting, and implements best practices to achieve consistent steel quality and cost-effective operations.

Job Description
To ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality stainless steel production through optimal operation of the AOD (Argon Oxygen Decarburization. converter. The Senior Engineer oversees process control, metallurgical quality, equipment performance, manpower coordination, and continuous improvement to meet production, quality, cost, and safety targets.
Principal Accountabilities
Production & Process ControlMonitor and control AOD process parameters to achieve required chemical composition and temperature. Plan and execute heat schedules to meet daily and monthly production targets. Optimize gas blowing, slag formation, reduction, and refining processes. Coordinate with CCM, LF, and Melting teams for smooth heat sequencing. Metallurgical QualityEnsure metallurgical practices are followed to meet product grade requirements. Analyze process deviations and implement corrective actions. Review heat-wise data and refine operational practices to reduce variability. Equipment Operation & MaintenanceSupervise the operation of AOD converters, lance systems, gas supply, and associated equipment. Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive and breakdown maintenance. Ensure availability and performance of critical equipment and instruments. Safety, Compliance & DocumentationEnforce safety procedures related to high-temperature steelmaking, gases, and equipment. Ensure adherence to environmental and statutory guidelines. Maintain heat logs, process reports, and operational records. Team Leadership & TrainingGuide and support AOD operators, shift engineers, and technicians. Conduct skill-development and training sessions for operators. Lead shift teams to ensure discipline, productivity, and operational continuity. Continuous ImprovementIdentify areas for cost reduction, such as gas consumption, flux usage, and cycle time. Implement lean manufacturing, Kaizen, and 5S initiatives. Drive improvements in converter life, process stability, and energy efficiency.
