Job Description

Job Purpose / Objective

To supervise and execute mechanical operations with a focus on Stern & Gear systems, shafting, and marine mechanical equipment. The role involves leading site activities, coordinating technicians and vendors, ensuring quality and safety compliance, and supporting timely execution of ship repair, refit, and marine engineering projects.

Education

Position Requirements:

  • Diploma / B.E. / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering
  • Marine Engineering exposure will be an added advantage
  • 4 to 7 years of hands-on experience in mechanical operations or shipyard/site execution
  • Strong experience in Stern & Gear systems, shafting, propeller shafts, rudder systems, and marine propulsion components
  • Experience in ship repair, dry dock, or marine engineering projects preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong practical knowledge of Stern & Gear systems, including stern tube, bearings, seals, bushes, shafting, alignment, and rudder systems.
  • Hands-on experience in installation, dismantling, inspection, overhaul, and alignment of stern & gear and shafting during ship repair and refit projects.
  • Ability to supervise and allocate work to technicians, fitters, and contractors while monitoring daily progress at site.
  • Good understanding of fabrication, machining, and shipyard processes, with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and layouts.
  • Ensure alignment checks, measurements, inspections, and compliance with defined technical standards.
  • Strong coordination with vendors, ship staff, stores, and internal project teams for smooth execution.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and project timelines, maintaining a safety-conscious and quality-oriented approach.
  • Prepare and maintain site documentation, inspection records, and daily progress reports.
  • Demonstrate leadership, effective communication, problem-solving, and on-site decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work in dry dock and site environments, and support seniors in planning and execution of mechanical activities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Ability to identify faults, analyze root causes, and carry out effective troubleshooting during ship repair and refit operations.
  • Provide hands-on technical training to subordinates with the aim of team development
