Job Title: HVAC Chiller Subject Matter Expert (SME) - West
Position Summary
The HVAC Chiller SME will serve as the technical authority for chiller systems, including water-cooled and air-cooled chillers, centrifugal chillers, and associated thermal management solutions. This role ensures optimal design, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and lifecycle maintenance of chiller systems in mission-critical environments such as data centers and industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Expertise: Provide advanced knowledge on chiller systems, including scroll, screw, and centrifugal chillers, heat pumps, and cooling towers.
- Design & Commissioning: Lead design reviews, installation, and commissioning of chiller plants and chilled water systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
- Performance Optimization: Analyze system performance, recommend energy efficiency improvements, and implement sustainability initiatives.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate records for commissioning, warranty, AMC/CAMC contracts, and ensure adherence to regulatory and manufacturer guidelines.
- Training & Mentorship: Develop training modules and mentor engineers and technicians on chiller operations and maintenance.
- Customer Engagement: Act as a trusted advisor for clients on thermal load management, upgrades, and service strategies.
Required Skills
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC chiller systems and chilled water piping design.
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools, sensors, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and client-facing abilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or HVAC Technology (preferred).
- Professional certifications in HVAC or chiller systems highly desirable.
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in chiller plant design, commissioning, and service operations.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with industry standards and safety protocols.
- Hands-on experience with CRAC units, chillers, cooling towers, and thermal storage systems.
- Ability to mentor and train junior engineers.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Frequent travel to customer sites (up to 40 to 50%).
- Flexible to work weekends and holidays as required.
