The Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the US Payroll Transactions team is responsible for providing deep expertise in payroll processing, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll transactions across the US employee population. This role acts as a key resource for resolving complex payroll issues, driving process improvements, and supporting payroll system functionalities.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and expert resource for the US Payroll Transactions team regarding payroll process transactions and payroll system operations.
  • Lead the end-to-end payroll transaction processing lifecycle, including special pay, adjustments, deductions, garnishments, and off-cycle payroll run.
  • Ensure payroll transactions comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Payroll Operations, HR, Finance, and IT teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and system issues.
  • Partner with IT and vendor partners to troubleshoot, test, and implement payroll system enhancements or fixes.
  • Assist in payroll audits and compliance reviews by preparing documentation and explaining payroll transaction controls.
  • Provide training and guidance to payroll team members to enhance transaction processing knowledge and quality.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Support payroll reporting and data analysis related to payroll transactions for leadership insight.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of payroll transaction processes, system configurations, and business rules.
  • Stay current with US payroll legislation and technology trends to keep payroll practices up to date.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)


  • Bachelor's degree in business, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in US payroll processing or payroll operations.
  • Proven expertise in payroll transaction processing, including special pays, garnishments, and off-cycle payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of US payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance standards.
  • Experience working with payroll systems such as SAP, ADP, Ceridian or equivalent.
  • Experience working with any HCM platforms such as Infor, Workday, Success factor etc.,
  • Ability to analyse complex payroll data and resolve discrepancies.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with payroll audit and compliance activities is a plus.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and reporting platforms is beneficial.
