1. Veterinary Care and Animal Welfare
- Conduct daily health monitoring of laboratory animals (rats, mice, rabbits, dogs, NHPs, etc.).
- Diagnose and treat illnesses, injuries, and adverse clinical signs.
- Administer anesthetics, analgesics, and other therapeutic agents as per protocol or veterinary judgment.
- Provide guidance on humane endpoints and euthanasia methods.
2. Study-Related Responsibilities
- Participate in study planning, protocol review, and dose formulation review meetings.
- Perform and/or oversee clinical observations, detailed clinical exams, and necropsies.
- Evaluate and interpret clinical signs and correlate them with study data.
- Ensure all veterinary-related observations and treatments are documented in compliance with GLP.
3. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure adherence to OECD GLP, CPCSEA/IAEC guidelines, and institutional SOPs.
- Prepare/review veterinary-related sections of study protocols and final reports.
- Participate in internal and external audits (QA, regulatory, sponsor) and ensure timely CAPA implementation.
4. Animal Facility Support
- Contribute to maintaining biosecurity, hygiene, and environmental enrichment standards.
- Provide training and support to animal technicians and study staff on handling, dosing, anesthesia, etc.
- Assist in procurement and quarantine of animals as per SOP.
5. Ethical and Scientific Oversight
- Serve as a member or advisor to the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC).
- Ensure humane practices are followed throughout the study lifecycle.
- Support development and refinement of procedures aligned with the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement).
