Study Material Expert - Maths

Position Overview:

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Math will develop engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans and instructional materials for Grades 3–12, aligned with U.S. curriculum standards (e.g., Common Core and state standards). This role requires strong math subject expertise and the ability to design age-appropriate, concept-driven instruction that builds numeracy, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning skills.

Key Responsibilities

1. Subject Matter Expertise

A. Develop content aligned to the U.S. elementary math curriculum, including:

1. Operations & Algebraic Thinking

• Multiplication and division concepts and fluency
• Multi-digit arithmetic
• Numerical expressions
• Patterns and introductory algebraic reasoning

1. Number & Operations in Base Ten

• Place value understanding
• Multi-digit addition and subtraction
• Multiplication and division strategies
• Decimals to the hundredths

1. Fractions

• Fraction equivalence and comparison
• Adding and subtracting fractions
• Multiplying fractions by whole numbers
• Understanding fractions as division

1. Measurement & Data

• Unit conversions
• Area, perimeter, and volume
• Line plots
• Introduction to coordinate grids (first quadrant)

1. Geometry

• Classifying two-dimensional shapes
• Understanding attributes and properties of shapes

B. Develop curriculum-aligned content, including:

1. Ratios & Proportional Relationships

• Unit rates
• Percent applications
• Proportional reasoning and real-world problems

1. The Number System

• Operations with fractions and decimals
• Integers and rational numbers
• Absolute value

1. Expressions & Equations

• Writing and evaluating expressions
• Solving one- and two-step equations
• Linear equations and inequalities
• Systems of linear equations (Grade 8)

1. Functions

• Understanding and defining functions
• Function notation
• Linear relationships and slope

1. Geometry

• Area, surface area, and volume
• Transformations (translations, rotations, reflections)
• Pythagorean Theorem

1. Statistics & Probability

• Measures of center and spread
• Statistical variability
• Bivariate data and scatter plots

1. Develop content aligned to the U.S. math curriculum, including:
2. Algebra

• Linear, quadratic, and exponential functions
• Polynomial operations and factoring
• Solving equations and inequalities
• Rational expressions
• Complex numbers

• Function transformations
• Inverse and piecewise functions
• Modeling real-world situations

1. Geometry

• Congruence and similarity
• Coordinate geometry
• Circles
• Geometric proofs
• Introductory trigonometry

1. Statistics & Probability

• Probability rules
• Conditional probability
• Normal distribution
• Data interpretation

1. Advanced Topics (as applicable)

• Logarithmic functions
• Trigonometric identities
• Sequences and series
• Introductory limits (Precalculus level)

1. Instructional Design & Development
2. Create detailed lesson plans aligned to standards and learning objectives.
3. Develop formative and summative assessments.
4. Design scaffolded practice problems and real-world tasks.
5. Identify media requirements such as visuals, manipulatives, and interactive elements.

1. Collaboration & Feedback
2. Collaborate with Instructional Designers and curriculum teams.
3. Incorporate feedback from reviews and pilot implementations.
4. Participate in virtual collaboration sessions.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field.
• Experience teaching or developing curriculum for Grades 3–12 (U.S. curriculum strongly preferred).
• Strong understanding of math pedagogy and taxonomies.
• Comfortable using AI tools for content drafting, review, problem generation, and quality enhancement, with proper validation.
• Willingness to work on digital authoring platforms such as Articulate Rise , Mindsmith (training provided).

Preferred:

• Master's degree in Mathematics or Education.
• Experience with digital or blended learning environments.
• Exposure to authoring content on LMS (Canvas) and CMS (Brightspot)
