Role Description
Department
We are looking for a Student Services Assistant to provide reception services and admin support as part of our larger Student Services team across the Departments of Chemistry and Environment and Geography, who support each other on a daily basis, and which is at the heart of the student experience. You will be required to work with colleagues across the University to ensure the service functions effectively, working in accordance with the University and Departmental policies and procedures. You will respond professionally to enquiries, received on the telephone, in person or electronically, and provide reception services to a variety of internal and external users. Duties may include booking rooms, catering and AV equipment booking; arranging parking permits and travel; ordering departmental supplies. You will also support a range of student services activities including student engagement and welfare support. Working within the wider Student Services team you will support student and staff community activities and field trips. Due to the requirements of the role, the Chemistry building on Campus West would be the main place of work.

Role
The main purpose of the role is to provide friendly and professional support to the Department of Chemistry, which includes answering queries, and supporting staff and students. In addition you will support the wider Student Services team in responding to general email enquiries and a portfolio of important administrative tasks. The post holder will also assist with Departmental student and staff events throughout the year. The role-holder will be expected to provide high levels of customer service at all times with a friendly, approachable and can-do attitude. This is a part-time role working 22.20 hours a week.
Skills, Experience & Qualification Needed
- Ability to effectively organise and prioritise own work and follow procedures, in order to produce work to a high standard, to required deadlines
- Ability to deal with confidential information appropriately
- Level 2 qualification (Qualifications at this level include five GCSEs at grade A*-C/ grade 4-9. Please view the full list). We also welcome applicants with equivalent non-uk qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
- Accurately record and report information/data
- Use digital technologies including Google applications and/or Microsoft Office
- Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats
- Assist others to organise activities
- Comfortable working flexibly, under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Adapts well to change and service improvements
