Job Description

Position : Student Counsellor

Campus : Harvest International School, Kodathi Campus

Job Summary

The School Counsellor will be responsible for strengthening the emotional, social,

behavioural, and overall well-being of students by providing professional counselling

support, early intervention, guidance, and preventive wellbeing programmes. The

role involves working collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and school

leadership to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment that enables every

student to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Student Well-being & Counselling: Provide individual and group

counselling, guidance, and age-appropriate interventions to support students

with emotional, behavioural, social, academic, and personal concerns.

Early Identification & Intervention: Proactively identify students requiring

additional support through observations, referrals, interactions, and

appropriate assessment, and develop suitable intervention and follow-up

plans.

Pastoral & Behavioural Support: Partner with teachers and school

leadership in addressing behavioural, interpersonal, adjustment, attendance,

and classroom-related concerns, promoting positive behaviour and healthy

student relationships.

Parent & Family Engagement: Work closely with parents to understand

student concerns, provide appropriate guidance, facilitate constructive

conversations, and build a collaborative support system around the child.

Student Development & Well-being Programmes: Design and facilitate

age-appropriate programmes, workshops, and interventions focused on

emotional intelligence, resilience, self-awareness, stress management,

relationships, life skills, digital well-being, bullying prevention, and responsible

decision-making.

Academic & Career Guidance: Support students in developing effective

study habits, managing academic pressures, setting goals, making informed

academic choices, and exploring career and higher-education pathways.

Safeguarding & Risk Management: Act as a key support resource for

student safeguarding and protection, responding appropriately to concerns

relating to bullying, abuse, neglect, self-harm, emotional distress, or other

risks in accordance with established school protocols.

Referral & Professional Collaboration: Recognise cases requiring

specialised intervention and coordinate, as appropriate, with parents and

qualified external professionals while ensuring continuity of support within the

school.

Confidentiality, Documentation & Case Management: Maintain appropriate

confidentiality, accurate counselling records, case notes, intervention plans,

referrals, and follow-up documentation in accordance with professional and

institutional standards.

School-wide Well-being Culture: Contribute to the development of a

positive, inclusive, and psychologically safe school culture by partnering with

teachers and leadership and providing guidance on student well-being,

classroom dynamics, and supportive practices.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Work as an integral member of the school's

pastoral/student-support team, contributing professional insights to student

support discussions, intervention planning, and broader school initiatives.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Psychology / Counselling Psychology / Clinical Psychology / Educational Psychology or a related field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology / Counselling / Social Work / Education or a relevant discipline.
  • Professional certification or training in School Counselling, Child Psychology, Adolescent Counselling, or Student Well-being will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, POSH, and student welfare practices is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2–5 years of relevant experience as a School Counsellor, Student Counsellor, Child Psychologist, or in a similar student-support role, preferably in a school environment.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents across different age groups.
