Qualification: Graduate / Masters in civil or structural engineering (essential)

Experience: 10 years of work experience as a structural engineer in both RCC and Steel structures (essential)

Experience and Skills:

  • Graduate Engineer with a degree in Civil Engineering; post-graduate qualification in Structural Engineering or equivalent from a reputed institution preferred.
  • At least 10 years experience in analysis, design, detailed engineering, cost estimation and drawing preparation for road bridges, flyovers, underpasses, ROBs/RUBs, and culverts. Building structures experience would be an added advantage.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of design of RCC and PSC bridges including simply supported, continuous, and box girder typologies; experience with steel bridges and composite deck bridges is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis using software such as STAAD Pro and equivalent, and drawing preparation using AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of IRC codes, IS code and MoRTH specifications applicable to bridges and structures. NBC codes for building structures.
  • Sound knowledge of foundation engineering for bridges and buildings including open foundations, well foundations, pile foundations (bored cast-in-situ and precast), and raft foundations.
  • Experience in hydrological and hydraulic analysis for bridge design including scour calculations, HFL determination, afflux analysis, and waterway design.
  • Experience in preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for bridges and structures, including inspection reports for existing bridges.
  • Experience in site visits, client and contractor interactions for technical discussions and presentations, and preparation of Tender/Bid documents for bridge and structures works.
  • Should be familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The main duties and responsibilities of the Structures Engineer will be, but not limited to, the following:

  • Carry out site reconnaissance, site inspection, data collection, and meetings with stakeholders to establish project scope and structural requirements.
  • Perform hydrological and hydraulic analysis for bridge and culvert design including catchment analysis, design discharge computation, scour analysis, afflux calculation, and determination of waterway requirements.
  • Undertake structural analysis and design of buildings and bridges (RCC/PSC/steel) including superstructure, substructure, and foundations using appropriate software (STAAD Pro or equivalent).
  • Design all elements of bridge and culvert structures including deck slab, girders, cross beams, piers, abutments, wing walls, return walls, pile caps, piles, and well foundations in accordance with applicable IRC codes.
  • Design and detail box culverts, slab culverts, pipe culverts, and other minor hydraulic structures along road corridors.
  • Prepare detailed structural design calculation reports, design basis notes, and construction specifications for all bridge and structural components.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings including general arrangement drawings (GADs), reinforcement detailing drawings, pier/ abutment details, foundation plans, and erection/construction sequence drawings.
  • Prepare detailed quantity estimates and cost estimates; provide inputs to BOQ and rate analysis for bridge and structures/ building works.
  • Prepare and review tender drawings and tender documents including technical specifications, schedule of quantities, and special conditions of contract for bridge/ building works.
  • Coordinate with road geometry, drainage, geotechnical, survey, and utility teams for integrated design and implementation.
  • Review and check structural designs and drawings prepared by draftspersons; ensure quality control and compliance with applicable codes and project standards.
  • Respond to all technical queries from stakeholders/ contractors during design, bidding, and construction supervision stages.
  • Prepare structural inspection and condition assessment reports for existing bridges/ buildings as required.
  • Carry out any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the HOD or Project Manager.
