Strength & Conditioning Coach
Reporting to the Head of Physical Performance, the incumbent will facilitate the delivery of world-class strength and conditioning support as assigned to core sports. Embedded within the sport and working in close collaboration with multi-disciplinary staff, the individual will strategize, innovate, and implement methods to develop the physical capacities of athletes. Practical, open-minded, and forward-thinking, the individual will tailor and drive delivery aligned to the sport, in line with the key responsibilities outlined below.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of strength and conditioning (S&C) preparation plans for athletes, with a focus on achieving elite physical performance gains and enabling the realization of individual performance goals within their chosen sport.
- Collaborate with the physiotherapy department to establish and deliver return-to-play protocols for post-injury or post-surgery rehabilitation.
- Demonstrate strong practical application of core strength and conditioning concepts.
- Work effectively within an interdisciplinary team (e.g., coaches, physiotherapists, sports massage therapists, analysts) to design and deliver integrated performance strategies.
- Deliver services in alignment with IIS values.
- Collaborate with physiology staff to ensure well-aligned, physiologically directed programming interventions.
- Deliver S&C programmes to elite high-performance athletes in endurance, power-endurance, or cyclical sports (e.g., athletics, swimming, rowing).
- In collaboration with coaches, design and implement periodized training cycles within high-volume environments.
- Demonstrate competence in using athlete monitoring tools such as velocity-based training and force platforms.
- Manage high training loads and recovery cycles effectively.
- Demonstrate experience in return-to-training protocols, movement quality restoration, and load re-progression.
- Exhibit strong communication, organization, and session execution skills suitable for both individual and squad-based training environments.
Minimum Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a related field, preferably with a specialization in the physical preparation of athletes.
- Industry-recognized certification (e.g., ASCA, NSCA-CSCS, UKSA-ASCC; above Level 2 where applicable).
- Demonstrable experience delivering programmes to elite athletes or high-performance groups.
- Experience in injury rehabilitation practices and return-to-play protocols.
- Practical experience using athlete monitoring systems.
- Practical experience using testing and monitoring modalities.
