Job description:
STEM Facilitator
From learning how things work → to designing what could work.
About SPOT
SPOT is a project-based microschool that brings personalised learning designed for:
● Curious learners
● Gifted & twice-exceptional (2E) children
● Homeschoolers and learners who find traditional classrooms limiting
We don't believe STEM is about memorising formulas or completing worksheets.
We believe STEM is:
● A way to understand how the world works
● A tool to experiment, build and create
● A way to ask better questions
● A process of solving real-world problems
Role Mission
To help children think like scientists, engineers, designers and inventors—not just learn
STEM concepts.
You will work closely with:
● Gifted learners who need depth, complexity and challenge
● 2E learners who need flexibility and alternative pathways
● Learners who are naturally curious about how things work
Your role is to turn Why does this happen into Let's find out.
What You'll Do
1. Make STEM Real & Applied
Design learning experiences around:
● Real-world problems
● Experiments and investigations
● Building and prototyping
● Simulations
● Design challenges
● Everyday phenomena
For example:
● Physics → Build and test a bridge
● Biology → Design a sustainable mini-ecosystem
● Chemistry → Investigate water quality or material properties
● Engineering → Build a structure that can withstand a given load
● Technology → Create a simple automated solution
● Environmental science → Design solutions for waste or water management
The goal is not just to know how something works, but to explore why, test it, improve it
and apply it.
2. Facilitate Experiments, Projects & Inquiry
You will create opportunities for children to:
● Ask questions
● Form hypotheses
● Design experiments
● Collect and analyse data
● Build prototypes
● Test ideas
● Learn from failure
● Iterate and improve
You will encourage learners to move through a process such as:
Question → Explore → Build → Test → Analyse → Improve → Share
Failure is treated as part of the learning process—not as a mistake to avoid.
3. Personalize Learning for 2E & Gifted Learners
Adapt STEM experiences based on:
● Child's interests
● Learning style
● Cognitive profile
● Strength areas
● Readiness and prior knowledge
You will:
● Stretch gifted learners through greater complexity and open-ended challenges
● Provide 2E learners with alternative ways to access concepts
● Allow learners to demonstrate understanding through different formats
● Follow a child's curiosity where meaningful
The same STEM concept may become a different learning experience for each child.
4. Integrate Across SPOT Studios
STEM at SPOT is not taught in isolation.
You will collaborate across studios:
● Maker Studio → engineering, materials, prototyping, design
● Business Studio → product design, cost, efficiency, sustainability
● AI / Technology Studio → coding, automation, data, computational thinking
● Creative Studio → design thinking, visualisation, communication
● Environment & Community Projects → sustainability and real-world problem
solving
For example:
Can we design a low-cost irrigation system
This could involve:
Science → understand water movement
Math → calculate flow and volume
Engineering → design the system
Technology → automate it
Business → calculate cost
Design → make it usable
5. Build Skill-Based Learning Systems
Design and track STEM skills such as:
● Scientific reasoning
● Observation
● Hypothesis formation
● Experiment design
● Data interpretation
● Problem solving
● Systems thinking
● Engineering thinking
● Computational thinking
● Creativity and innovation
● Collaboration
● Communication
You will contribute to:
● Skill trackers
● Project rubrics
● Learning documentation
● Student portfolios
● Project reflections
The focus is on how a learner thinks and works, not just whether they arrived at the
correct answer.
6. Support Academic & Independent Learning
Pathways
Where relevant, support learners working towards:
● IGCSE Science / STEM subjects
● NIOS Science pathways
● School-based academic requirements
● Independent projects and research
While maintaining SPOT's approach:
Concept-first → Application → Exploration → Academic alignment
Rather than:
Syllabus → Worksheet → Test
What We're Looking For
Must-have:
● Strong conceptual understanding of STEM concepts at middle and high-school level
● Ability to explain scientific and technical concepts in multiple ways
● Strong hands-on and experimental approach to learning
● Ability to design projects and inquiry-based learning experiences
● Comfort working with gifted and 2E learners
● Curiosity and willingness to explore alongside learners
● Ability to facilitate rather than simply lecture
Bonus:
Experience or exposure to:
● Project-based learning
● STEM education / maker education
● Robotics
● Coding / programming
● Electronics / Arduino / microcontrollers
● 3D design / 3D printing
● Engineering projects
● Science fairs / Olympiads
● Research or experimentation
● Environmental science / sustainability
● Design thinking
What This Role Is NOT
● Not a traditional tuition teacher
● Not a worksheet-based teaching role
● Not syllabus-first
● Not lecture-heavy
● Not exam-driven
● Not about simply demonstrating experiments to children
If your approach is:
Explain the concept → give notes → complete worksheet → test
this role may not be the right fit.
We are looking for someone who can say:
I don't know. Let's figure it out.
What Success Looks Like
Within 3–6 months:
Students:
● Ask better questions
● Develop confidence in experimentation
● Apply STEM concepts to real-world situations
● Build, test and improve ideas
● Explain their reasoning clearly
● Become comfortable with uncertainty and failure
Gifted learners:
● Feel intellectually challenged
● Explore concepts beyond the standard curriculum
● Work on increasingly complex and open-ended problems
2E learners:
● Access STEM through approaches that work for them
● Build confidence in their strengths
● Have flexibility in how they explore and demonstrate understanding
Teaching Philosophy – SPOT Lens
You believe:
● Every child learns differently
● Curiosity is a powerful starting point for learning
● Understanding matters more than memorization
● Questions can be more valuable than answers
● Failure is part of the design process
● Learning happens through doing
● STEM is not a subject—it is a way of thinking
Sample Project You Might Facilitate
Design a Tiny Smart Farm
Students might:
Understand what plants need to grow
Investigate water usage
Calculate dimensions and quantities
Build a prototype irrigation system
Use sensors or simple automation
Collect and analyse data
Calculate the cost
Explore sustainability
Present and defend their design
This is STEM in action.
Logistics
● Location: SPOT, Bangalore
● Type: Full-time
● Work Days: Monday, Tuesday, Friday & Saturday
● Schedule: Flexible based on programme requirements
Final Note
We are not hiring a traditional STEM teacher.
We are looking for a facilitator, builder, experimenter and problem-solver who can help
children:
Ask better questions.
Think deeply.
Build boldly.
Experiment fearlessly.
And create solutions that matter.
