The Senior Research Engineer - Control Systems, is responsible for designing and implementing advanced control strategies, algorithms, and architectures to enable real-time process monitoring, optimization, and automation for next-generation bioprocess technologies.

This position reports to theSenior Manager - Research and is part of theCentral Technology Organization (CTO) R&D department located in Bangalore and will be an on-site role. At Cytiva, our vision is, to advance future therapeutics from discovery to delivery.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement advanced control algorithms (PID, MPC, adaptive control) for bioprocess applications.
  • Design feedback and feedforward control loops for process stability and performance.
  • Integrate control systems with PAT instrumentation and data analytics platforms.
  • Leverage dynamic models and digital twins for process control and optimization.
  • Apply multivariate analysis and chemometrics for real-time decision-making.
  • Configure and program PLCs, DCS, and embedded controllers for experimental setups.
  • Ensure seamless integration with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, OPC-UA, Modbus).
  • Develop robust testing protocols for control system reliability and compliance.
  • Validate control strategies under varying process conditions.
  • Work closely with electronics, instrumentation, and data science teams.
  • Contribute to patents, publications, and technology demonstrations.

Who You Are

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in control system design and implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of control theory (PID, MPC, adaptive control), proficiency in PLC programming, SCADA systems, LabView, industrial communication protocols and debugging with JTAG.
  • Strong proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or similar tools for modeling and simulation.
  • Experience with PLC/DCS programming, real-time systems, and industrial automation standards.
  • Knowledge of process control theory, multivariate analysis, and signal processing.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in bioprocess control or life sciences automation.
    • Familiarity with IoT frameworks, edge computing, and cloud-based control architectures.
    • Exposure to machine learning for predictive control.
