Staff Perception Engineer – Autonomous Systems
SKEYEBOTS | India | Full-Time | Hybrid
About SKEYEBOTS
SKEYEBOTS builds AI-driven autonomous systems for unmanned platforms operating across aerial, ground, and maritime environments — where perception failures are not an option.
We are not looking for people who want to maintain. We are looking for engineers who want to build and lead.
The Role
We are looking for a Staff Perception Engineer to own SKEYEBOTS entire perception stack — from multi-modal sensor fusion through real-time detection, tracking, and state estimation — across all platform types. This is a leadership role. You will set the technical direction, manage junior engineers, and define how our platforms see and understand the world.
What You'll Own
- End-to-end perception architecture across aerial, ground, and surface autonomous platforms
- Multi-modal sensor fusion: RGB, depth, thermal/IR, LiDAR, and IMU
- Real-time detection, classification, segmentation, multi-object tracking, and state estimation pipelines
- Visual-inertial odometry, SLAM, and full sensor calibration workflows
- Edge deployment and optimisation on NVIDIA Jetson and custom accelerators (TensorRT, ONNX, CUDA)
- Integration with ROS/ROS2, AI planning, and controls subsystems
- Simulation environments and sim-to-real validation pipelines
- Perception R&D roadmap, dataset curation, and active learning pipelines
- Team leadership: 1–2 direct reports from day one, growing with the organisation
What We're Looking For
Required
- PhD or Master's in Computer Vision, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, CS, or a closely related discipline
- 8+ years hands-on CV/perception engineering experience; 10+ years total professional software engineering
- Deep ROS/ROS2 expertise: nodes, TF2, topics, services, actions, and launch systems
- Strong C++ for performance-critical code; Python for tooling and rapid development
- Multi-modal sensor fusion: cameras, LiDAR, IMU, thermal/IR in real-world conditions
- Multi-object tracking: Kalman filter architectures, SORT, ByteTrack, or equivalent
- Deep learning deployment: PyTorch or TensorFlow with TensorRT or ONNX on edge hardware
- Camera calibration, stereo vision, visual odometry, and VIO
- Solid grounding in probabilistic estimation, 3D geometry, and linear algebra
- Track record of shipping perception systems into real, deployed autonomous platforms
- Experience leading or managing engineers
Preferred
- SLAM: ORB-SLAM3, RTAB-Map, or similar
- LiDAR-inertial fusion: LIO-SAM, FAST-LIO, or similar
- VIO: VINS-Mono, Kimera, OpenVINS, or equivalent
- Aerial, ground, or maritime autonomous platform experience
- MAVLink, PX4, or ArduPilot familiarity
- Uncertainty quantification for safety-critical perception
- Custom CUDA kernel writing for edge inference optimisation
- Open-source ROS or CV project contributions
What You'll Get
- Competitive compensation + significant ESOP allocation — structured for a leadership role; discussed with the right candidate
- Direct collaboration with the founding team on perception strategy and roadmap
- The mandate to build and grow SKEYEBOTS perception organisation
- Your work deploys into real, operational platforms — aerial, ground, and surface
Location
Kochi (Kerala) or Bangalore (Karnataka) — hybrid, with remote flexibility. Specific arrangement and any relocation support discussed during the interview process.
How to Apply
Please apply through LinkedIn or send your CV and a brief note — the hardest multi-sensor fusion problem you have solved on a real deployed platform, what broke, and how you fixed it (Please send the same on LinkedIn).We move quickly. Strong profiles hear from us within a week.
SKEYEBOTS is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate candidates solely on capability, experience, and drive.
