Job Title: Staff Data Visualization Designer

Location: Bengaluru, India

About the Role:

The Staff Data Visualization Designer will be a core design contributor within the India COE's analytics practice, responsible for designing and building the executive dashboards, self-service analytics experiences, and interactive reports that power business decisions globally in Tableau and/ Power BI. Requirements and metric definitions are owned by the Insights & Analytics (I&A) function and relevant business stakeholders — this role's mandate is to translate those definitions into intuitive, visually excellent, accessible, and governed analytics products with strong UI/UX craft. The role works in close collaboration with I&A, Analytics Engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure every dashboard is well-designed, easy to use, and well-documented.

Scope of Responsibility:

Dashboard Design & Development:

  • Design and build enterprise dashboards, operational reports, and executive scorecards in Tableau and/ Power BI — developed to the metric definitions and requirements owned and validated by the I&A function and business stakeholders.
  • Translate analytically defined requirements into intuitive, visually polished, and well-structured dashboards that meet the COE's design quality and delivery standards.
  • Craft interactive experiences — drill-downs, filters, tooltips, parameters, and guided navigation — that let users move from overview to detail without losing context.
  • Build and maintain self-service analytics experiences: governed, easy-to-use templates and curated views that enable business power users to explore data independently.
  • Own the full design lifecycle for individual analytics products — from intake of a defined requirement through wireframing, build, stakeholder review, deployment, and post-launch refinement.

UX Research & Information Design:

  • Partner with I&A and business users to understand the decisions each dashboard supports, the questions users ask, and the context in which they consume analytics.
  • Apply information design principles — visual hierarchy, pre-attentive attributes, appropriate chart selection, and considered use of color and whitespace — so the most important insight is seen first.
  • Produce wireframes, low- and high-fidelity mockups, and clickable prototypes to align stakeholders on layout and interaction before development begins.
  • Flag ambiguous or conflicting requirements back to I&A for resolution before building — this role designs the experience and does not reinterpret the underlying metric definitions.
  • Run lightweight user research and feedback sessions, and use adoption and usage signals to iterate on layout, navigation, and content.

Design Systems, Visual Standards & Prototyping:

  • Build and maintain a reusable design system for analytics — templates, color palettes, typography, iconography, and component patterns — that keeps dashboards consistent across Tableau and Power BI.
  • Establish and document visualization standards and a style guide, and review peers dashboards for adherence to layout, branding, and interaction conventions.
  • Apply data visualization best practices and accessibility standards (WCAG — color contrast, colorblind-safe palettes, keyboard navigation, and alt text) to every dashboard and report.
  • Follow the COE's data product certification checklist — ensuring every deliverable meets design, documentation, and usability standards before production release.
  • Optimize dashboards for performance and responsive layouts across desktop, mobile, and embedded surfaces, keeping load times and interactivity smooth at organizational scale.

Usability & Quality:

  • Plan and run usability testing on dashboards — observing real users, capturing friction points, and translating findings into concrete design improvements.
  • Validate that every published dashboard is accurate to the agreed metric definitions and renders correctly across browsers, devices, and permission levels before sign-off.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in data visualization, business intelligence, or dashboard design, with a strong UI/UX focus.
  • Demonstrated mastery of Tableau and/ Power BI — building production-grade interactive dashboards, calculated fields and measures, and well-structured, reusable workbooks and reports at organizational scale.
  • Hands-on expertise with Copilot in Power BI — using its natural-language and generative-AI capabilities to accelerate report building, DAX and measure creation, and narrative insights, and guiding business users to adopt these features effectively.
  • Strong UI/UX design skills — information design, visual hierarchy, and interaction design — with the ability to produce wireframes and prototypes in Figma or an equivalent tool.
  • Solid working proficiency in SQL — able to explore data, validate metrics, and shape query results to support well-designed visualizations.
  • Deep understanding of data visualization best practices and chart selection — which visual answers which question, and how to avoid misleading or cluttered design.
  • Experience implementing dashboards from business-defined metric specifications — comfortable executing against requirements owned upstream by an analytics or product function.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a regulated industry (life sciences, healthcare, or similar) where data accuracy, auditability, and clear presentation carry compliance implications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in design, human-computer interaction, information systems, statistics, business analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience building self-service analytics experiences and enabling business power users to work independently with governed, well-designed templates.
  • Familiarity with design and prototyping tools (Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch) and with building and maintaining reusable design systems.
  • Experience embedding analytics into applications or portals, and optimizing dashboards for mobile devices and performance.
  • Experience working in a global capability center (GCC) or center of excellence (COE) environment.
