Purpose of the Role

The O365 Subject Matter Expert (SME) is accountable for the delivery and execution of enterprise Microsoft 365 solutions across the organization, with core responsibility for SharePoint, Power Platform, OneDrive, Yammer, and Teams. The SME co-owns the product roadmap and solution architecture with the Lead Architect and Squad Lead, helping define the target-state collaboration and productivity platform and ensuring consistent adoption of existing and emerging technologies. The role interfaces with Infrastructure, Security, and Application Development and requires strong communication and presentation skills, proactive problem-solving, and an agile, results-oriented approach that values speed, flexibility, and continuous improvement.

Working in consultation with the O365 Lead Architect and Squad Lead, theSr Technical Engineerwill:

  • Support delivery of Digital Workplace productivity tools by implementing and enhancing Office 3 65 capabilities, including integration with Teams and SharePoint, and contributing to fit-for-purpose custom solutions
  • Provide technical input to implementation plans by documenting requirements, sizing effort, identifying dependencies/risks, and recommending practical options aligned to established standards
  • Execute M365 implementation tasks within the Azure Cloud platform, following Security and Compliance frameworks and coordinating with specialist teams as needed
  • Maintain and improve day-to-day operational health for M365 technologies by troubleshooting issues, supporting upgrades/patching, and assisting with cross-platform integrations under architectural guidance
  • Partner with Infrastructure, Cyber Security, Legal, and Records teams to complete implementation work, meet control requirements, and resolve technical blockers
  • Demonstrate strong customer service orientation and communication by explaining technical options clearly, following defined policies and procedures, and delivering against tight timelines

The Digital and Technology team of General Mills India Centre is seeking a passionate and strategic individual to contribute to the Global Digital Transformation initiative in the capacity of Sr Technical Engineer. The individual will be a highly motivated strategic thinker and skilled collaborator capable of influencing senior stakeholders in transforming Microsoft O365 processes, governance, and adoption.

Collaboration & Partnership

This role operates with meaningful autonomy in day-to-day M365 engineering delivery while building strong partnerships across the organization.:

Areas of Full Ownership:

  • Day-to-day M365 operational execution and delivery (incidents, requests, changes, and continuous improvements)
  • M365 engineering execution for assigned initiatives (configuration, implementation tasks, and technical documentation)
  • M365-specific technical solutioning within established standards (tactical design decisions and recommended implementation approach)
  • Operational readiness activities (runbooks, support handoffs, monitoring/health checks, and release/change communications)
  • Technical work with partner teams to unblock delivery (e.g., Infrastructure, Cyber Security, Legal, Records)

Collaborative Partnership Areas:

  • Product roadmap inputs and upcoming change readiness (working with the Lead Architect/ Squad Lead and engaging Microsoft (for best practices, roadmap updates, and release impact)
  • Cross-platform integration decisions (coordinating with enterprise architecture and other platform owners)
  • Security, compliance, and governance alignment (following required frameworks and raising risks early)
  • Vendor engagement as needed for delivery (support tickets, technical guidance, and escalation support-aligned to the strategic vendor owner)
  • Long-term platform direction and adoption strategy (supporting with technical feasibility, effort sizing, and implementation implications)

TheSr Technical Engineeris empowered to drive execution and delivery results within the M365 domain, while partnering closely with the O365 Lead Architect /Squad Lead and senior technology leadership on roadmap, governance, and cross-platform considerations.

Primary Responsibilities

80% - Platform Engineering, Delivery & Operational Excellence

  • Design and deliver complex O365/M365 solutions and lead assigned workstreams on transformational programs, ensuring alignment to agreed design standards, methods, and tools
  • Configure, administer, and maintain the Office 365 ecosystem (SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Azure AD, Power Platform), including policies, settings, packages, and tenant hygiene
  • Build and maintain automation and administration scripts (e.g., PowerShell) to improve reliability, consistency, and speed of delivery
  • Define and apply implementation best practices for third-party integrations with O365, including evaluation, risk review, and technical recommendations
  • Support security and compliance execution, including MFA planning/deployment, threat and risk assessments, and remediation work to address identified security risks
  • Troubleshoot and resolve platform and integration issues, including cloud application integrations with security products
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation for solutions, processes, and compliance evidence (runbooks, SOPs, architecture notes, change records)
  • Drive continuous improvement across platform operations through agile delivery practices (Scrum), sprint planning, and iterative enhancements
  • Create clear dashboards, visualizations, and presentation-ready status/impact reporting for customers and leadership

  • Partner with stakeholders to translate requirements into implementable scope and communicate impacts, benefits, and trade-offs clearly
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor by bringing forward Microsoft best practices, upcoming changes, and roadmap insights relevant to the business

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Full-time graduation from an accredited university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field
  • Professional certifications in Azure and/or Office 365 are preferred and will be supported by the organization.

Experience Requirements

  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in enterprise IT with increasing responsibility in technical leadership roles.
  • Proven track record leading Microsoft 365 or comparable cloud collaboration platform initiatives in large, complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft 365 workloads (e.g. SharePoint Online, Power Platform & Teams) with working knowledge of the broader ecosystem.
  • Stakeholder management experience working with senior business leaders and technical teams across global organizations.
  • Strong relationship management skills with ability to partner effectively with vendors, executive leadership, and technical teams.

Technical Knowledge

The successful candidate should possess strategic understanding and architectural experience across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
