Sr SW Test Engineer

Short Description:
As a Senior Software Test Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing comprehensive test strategies for next-generation optical networking systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to validate high-performance, scalable, and reliable solutions for optical platforms and network elements, with a strong focus on automation using Python.
Description:
In this role, you will contribute to the validation and quality assurance of advanced optical communication systems, including DWDM-based transport networks. You will work on testing and validating software and system components for optical networking equipment such as ROADMs, amplifiers, and optical transport modules.
You will be responsible for developing robust test plans, building automation frameworks, and executing both manual and automated tests across multiple releases. The role involves deep collaboration with Systems, Hardware, Development, and Architecture teams to ensure feature completeness, performance, and reliability.
You will focus on delivering high-quality validation solutions, enabling continuous testing, and ensuring production-grade stability of optical networking systems.
Responsibilities:
• Develop test plans and strategies for optical networking systems and platforms
• Design and implement automation frameworks and scripts using Python for continuous testing
• Perform manual and automated testing for Optical DWDM equipment and protocols (OTN, GBE, DWDM, System Security)
• Validate Layer 0 optical components including ROADM and Optical Amplifiers
• Enable continuous integration and execution of automated test suites
• Collaborate with System Engineering on requirements review, definition, and test plan validation
• Work with Test, Design, and Architecture teams to understand feature implementation
• Develop cross-functional feature test cases based on system requirements and use cases
• Execute test suites, analyze failures, and debug complex system-level issues
• Provide detailed reports on test execution, defect analysis, and resolution
• Ensure quality validation across multiple product releases
• Contribute to automation improvements, CI/CD pipelines, and test efficiency
Skills and Qualifications:
You have:
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or related field
• 8+ years of experience in system testing and automation in optical networking domains
• Strong experience in testing Optical Networks (SONET/SDH/OTN/DWDM) in a product development environment
• Experience validating carrier-grade system features and functionalities
• Hands-on experience in testing ROADM and Optical Amplifier line cards
• Experience in FCAPS, provisioning, configuration, and protection schemes testing
• Strong expertise in developing and maintaining automation frameworks
• Proficiency in Python automation (preferred), along with Perl or other scripting languages
• Experience with test equipment such as Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA) and other optical test sets
• Strong debugging and failure analysis skills in complex systems
• Experience in system testing across multiple product releases
• Excellent collaboration skills with cross-functional teams (System, Development, Hardware)
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
Nice-to-Have:
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation integration
• Familiarity with containerized environments such as Docker
• Experience with modern testing frameworks and tools
• Knowledge of optical protection and restoration mechanisms
• Exposure to large-scale system validation and automation frameworks
• Experience with AI-assisted development or test automation tools
