Overview
Synaptics is looking for a Sr. Staff CAD Engineer to join our CAD Engineering team. In this role, you will lead PDK deployment and support a companywide full-custom design environment covering schematic, layout, simulation, and physical verification using industry-standard EDA tools. You will integrate 3rd party IPs, develop CAD methodologies, and build automation scripts across Skill, Perl, TCL, and Shell to optimize design flows. This position reports to the Director, CAD Engineering.
Responsibilities & Competencies
Job Duties
- Provide technical leadership for circuit and physical design teams in using design environments and tools
- Lead the installation, configuration PDK from foundry partners
- Understand requirements from the design community to customize and document PDK to meet Synaptics requirements
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for PDK related issues to worldwide design community
- Develop custom Skill code, schematic pcells and custom layout devices
- Install, configure, integrate and release 3rd party IPs
- Migration of design databases and CDK generation for IPs
- Develop scripts to automate various CAD flows
- Provide hands-on support for simulation, parasitic extraction, physical verification flows and product tapeouts
- Work with EDA vendors to fix bugs, evaluate and enhance EDA tools
- Act as a primary point of contact for CAD tools and flow-related questions; provide practical guidance and solutions

Qualifications (Requirements)
- Bachelor's degree in EE/CS or related field or equivalent
- 12+ years of working experience as CAD engineer in the semiconductor industry
- Experience in EDA tools and methodologies including Analog/Digital IC design, Mask Layout design and Verifications
- Experience with advanced technology nodes like 5nm/7nm/12nm
- Experience with PDK installation, customization, QA and support
- Experience with Cadence Skill language, pcell development and Cadence Virtuoso platform
- Experience with using Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor and Ansys tools
- Must be able to script in Skill, Python, Perl, Shell, TCL and a strong desire to automate design flows and scripts
