About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Developer & Database Architect to lead the design, development, optimization, and governance of enterprise-scale Microsoft SQL Server database environments. This role will be responsible for architecting high-performance data solutions, optimizing complex queries, and supporting mission-critical applications across large-scale systems.
The ideal candidate combines deep SQL development expertise with strong database architecture experience, enabling scalable, secure, and high-performing data platforms that support business-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
Database Architecture & Design
- Design and implement scalable, high-availability SQL Server database architecture
- Define data models, schema standards, and database design best practices
- Lead database strategy for performance, scalability, and reliability
- Architect solutions for OLTP, data integration, and reporting workloads
- Establish governance standards for database development and deployment
SQL Development
- Develop and optimize complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions
- Design efficient indexing strategies and query optimization techniques
- Build data pipelines and ETL processes using SQL Server tools
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks and production issues
- Implement data validation and integrity mechanisms
Performance Optimization
- Monitor and optimize query execution plans, indexing, and database performance
- Implement partitioning, indexing strategies, and caching mechanisms
- Conduct database tuning and capacity planning
- Ensure optimal performance for large-scale transactional systems
Data Integration & Automation
- Design and maintain ETL/ELT processes
- Integrate databases with enterprise applications and APIs
- Implement automation for database maintenance, monitoring, and deployments
- Support data migration and modernization initiatives
Security & Governance
- Implement database security best practices
- Manage access control, encryption, and auditing
- Ensure compliance with enterprise data governance policies
Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate with application developers, architects, and DevOps teams
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring for SQL developers
- Participate in architecture reviews and system design discussions
- Support Agile development teams and CI/CD data workflows
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in SQL Server development and database architecture
- Deep expertise in T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing, and query optimization
- Strong experience with database design and data modeling
- Experience managing large-scale enterprise databases
- Proficiency in SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting
- Experience with ETL processes and data integration
- Knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, and database replication
- Strong understanding of database security and governance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
- Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or BI tools
- Experience working in cloud environments (Azure SQL, Azure Data Services)
- Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience supporting large enterprise platforms or high-volume transactional systems
