We're on a journey to build something exciting on a green field project - Amazon Autos! We're looking for a talented Senior Software Development Engineer to join our team of product managers, designers, and engineers to design, and build innovative experiences for our customers.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer to design and implement the technology for a new Amazon business. We are looking for a Software Development Engineer III to design, implement and deliver end-to-end solutions. You will be an engineer on the team to support the foundation of a new development team, using your engineering experience to build an culture of innovation, quality and customer obsession.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer on this team, you will create software designs and implementation for medium-to-large scale complex projects across all areas. You will work directly with creative, product management and program management to understand and define the requirements and apply your technical expertise to solve difficult software problems in a fast-paced environment. You'll design and build software and systems for novel customer experiences, AWS services, and large-scale back-end web services, all with the goal of delivering a seamless experience to the customer.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead the technical design, delivery and operations of complex, high-impact initiatives across the Autos organisation, including large-scale distributed systems, lending & Checkout System, while managing cross-team dependencies and driving alignment
- Architect event-driven and microservices-based solutions (e.g. SNS/SQS-based integrations, accounting event contracts) with a focus on correctness, auditability, and scalability
- Incorporate AI-first practices and intelligent automation across the full software development lifecycle, from design and prototyping through to testing, deployment, and operations champion AI fluency and responsible AI adoption with appropriate human oversight for high-stakes outputs, and compliance with internal AI governance policies
- Produce high-quality design documents and lead technical reviews for ambiguous, high-stakes financial problems, partnering with finance, accounting, and business stakeholders to translate regulatory and operational requirements
- Drive cost-efficient developer productivity initiatives and engineering practices across AI and data systems, including data lifecycle management, tiered storage strategies, and right-sizing AI model usage to balance capability with cost and to proactively reduce unnecessary data retention, compute overhead, and token consumption
- Ensure data and system security and integrity across financial workflows so that all outputs meet operational requirements for reconciliation, auditability, and regulatory compliance implement threat modelling for generative AI components, guardrails against model misuse, logging and traceability of AI-generated outputs
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and career coaching
- Contribute to hiring by participating in interviews and helping raise the bar for engineering talent

A day in the life
You will be part of an agile team using scrum methodology to deliver features used by hundreds of Amazon teams. This includes daily stand-ups, interacting with end users and product managers, influencing team direction, designing and writing code, reviewing others work, and driving engineering excellence improvements.

Amazon Autos transforms automotive shopping experiences. You will build a engineering platform for Lending & Checkout, working with product managers, designers, and engineers to create automotive shopping experiences that delight customers.

Basic Qualifications

- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
