Sr. Quality Engineer Job Description

Job Title: Sr. Quality Engineer

Department: Quality

Reporting To: Manager-QA

Location: Bengaluru

Summary

Carrying out in-house inspection and source inspection for mechanical parts and maintaining compliance with QMS requirements.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, work orders, inspection manuals, and related documents to determine inspection and test procedures.
  • Carry out source inspections, audit mechanical vendors, and communicate with suppliers regarding inspection results and quality requirements.
  • Inspect materials, products, and work in progress for conformance to specifications.
  • Check mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies for proper alignment and functioning.
  • Mark items for acceptance or rejection, record inspection/test results, and compare findings with specifications.
  • Analyze and interpret sample data.
  • Clean and maintain test equipment and instruments.
  • Monitor inspection and test equipment readings, verify equipment condition, and report any abnormal readings or calibration concerns.
  • Control non-conforming products and reject materials or equipment not meeting requirements.
  • Manage supplier corrective action requests (SCARs), follow up on root cause analysis and corrective actions, and verify effective closure.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce quality issues, improve inspection effectiveness, and strengthen supplier quality performance.
  • Maintain records of inspection and testing equipment.
  • Maintain quality records and prepare handover packages/dossiers.
  • Inspect packaging of finished mechanical parts before shipment.
  • Report quality activities and monitor performance indicators.

Competencies (Skills)

  • Knowledge of mechanical parts production processes such as machining, coating, and painting.
  • Experience in analyzing CMM reports.
  • Experience using inspection tools such as Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, and Thickness Gauge.
  • Clear written and oral communication skills.
  • Teamwork and positive team participation.
  • Planning, organizing, and multitasking abilities.
  • Quality control analysis and inspection capability.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of ISO 9001 requirements and preferably AS9100D.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, ASME, and ASTM standards.

Abilities Needed

  • Good near vision for detailed inspection work.
  • Ability to distinguish color variations and shades.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to keep hand and arm steady during inspection activities.

Experience

Minimum 5 years of related experience.

Education

Diploma or BE in Mechanical Engineering.
