Job Description

Job Title: Senior Quality Control Engineer Department: Quality Assurance / Quality Control

Location: Vadodara

Reports To: QA/QC Manager / Plant Head

Job Summary

The Senior QC Engineer is responsible for ensuring that transformer radiators meet all specified quality standards, customer requirements, and regulatory norms. The role involves overseeing inspection processes, implementing quality systems, managing testing activities, and driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Control & Inspection
  • Develop and implement inspection plans for raw materials, in-process components, and finished radiator assemblies.
  • Ensure dimensional, visual, and functional inspections of radiator panels, fins, headers, and assemblies.
  • Monitor critical processes such as welding, fin pressing, oil leakage testing, and surface treatment.
  • Approve or reject materials and components based on quality standards.
  • Testing & Validation
  • Supervise leak testing (air pressure / hydro testing) of transformer radiators.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., IS, IEC, or customer specifications).
  • Validate welding quality through NDT methods (e.g., dye penetrant testing).
  • Maintain calibration of inspection and testing equipment.
  • Process Quality Assurance
  • Identify process deviations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Conduct root cause analysis using tools like 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, etc.
  • Work closely with production to reduce defects and improve yield.
  • Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain inspection records, quality reports, and test certificates.
  • Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 and other applicable quality standards.
  • Prepare quality documentation for customer audits and internal audits.
  • Supplier Quality Management
  • Evaluate and monitor supplier quality for raw materials (steel sheets, tubes, etc.).
  • Conduct incoming material inspections and supplier audits where required.
  • Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor QC inspectors and technicians.
  • Allocate inspection tasks and ensure proper training of team members.
  • Customer Interaction
  • Address customer complaints and coordinate resolution.
  • Participate in customer inspections and third-party audits.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering or related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in quality control, preferably in transformer, radiator, or fabrication industry.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of welding processes and inspection techniques.
  • Familiarity with standards like IS, IEC related to transformers/radiators.
  • Experience in NDT methods (DPT, visual inspection, etc.).
  • Proficiency in quality tools (SPC, CAPA, FMEA, 7 QC tools).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Good leadership and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Certification in Quality (e.g., Six Sigma, ISO Internal Auditor).
  • Experience with ERP/QMS systems.
  • Exposure to painting/coating quality standards for corrosion resistance.

  • Reduction in rejection rates and rework.
  • First-pass yield improvement.
  • Customer complaint closure time.
  • Audit compliance score.
  • Supplier quality performance.

Working Conditions

  • Shop-floor intensive role with exposure to fabrication, welding, and testing areas.
  • May require extended hours during audits or critical production schedules.
