Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Manage procurement of chemicals, reagents, solvents, and consumables for scale-up and kilo-lab projects.
  • Identify and develop suppliers for specialised or hard-to-source chemicals.
  • Align purchase requirements with technical specifications shared by scientists and project teams.
  • Ensure all procured materials meet regulatory, safety, and documentation standards.
  • Deliver fast and reliable sourcing to meet project-critical scale-up timelines.
  • Negotiate cost, quality, and delivery terms with domestic and international vendors.
  • Prepare purchase orders and maintain accurate procurement and costing records.
  • Coordinate with supply chain, logistics, and stores for timely material receipt and QA release.
  • Maintain project-wise inventory levels and prevent delays due to material shortages.
  • Track and evaluate vendor performance for quality, compliance, and on-time delivery.
  • Conduct market research and identify alternate suppliers for niche or rare chemicals.

Skills & Characteristics:

  • 48+ years of experience in procuring materials for scale-up projects within the pharmaceutical and chemical industry, with strong exposure to CRO/CDMO operations, process scale-up, API and intermediate sourcing, and global vendor management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage end-to-end procurement of key raw materials, advanced intermediates, key starting materials (KSMs), specialisation in Scale-up raw materials
  • Proficient in ERP systems and digital procurement workflows.
  • Expertise in evaluating and onboarding CRO/CMO vendors, managing technical, commercial, and compliance aspects, ensuring alignment with regulatory, quality and project timelines.
  • Strong background in process development & scale-up support
  • Excellent Excel and documentation management abilities.
  • Clear, effective communication with scientists and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work with urgency and meet tight project timelines.
  • Skilled in preparing RFQs, comparative cost analysis, vendor audits, and managing long-term supply agreements and contract manufacturing arrangements.
  • High attention to detail and a compliance mindset.
  • Organised, proactive, and capable of handling multiple requests.
  • Quick problem-solving skills for sourcing challenges.
  • Positive, collaborative attitude aligned with fast-paced CRO culture.

Education: Any Graduate/Post Graduate

Experience: 4-8+ years (CRO Experience)
