Sr. Project Engineer - Site Based

Experience: 8–12+ years relevant site / construction / PMC experienceReporting to Project Lead

· Report directly to the Project Lead for routine project matters on the assigned project.

· Translate project objectives, priorities and decisions into site action.

· Keep the Project Lead informed of progress, risks, technical issues, contractor performance and constraints.

· Implement legitimate project directions issued by the Project Lead.

· Raise technical concerns professionally with reasoning, evidence and alternatives.

· Do not seek parallel or conflicting approvals from senior management for routine matters.

Site Leadership

· Lead the Gray Matter site team.

· Allocate responsibilities among PE, Jr. PE and Supervisors.

· Set daily and weekly site priorities.

· Coordinate with contractor site teams and specialist agencies.

· Maintain professional site discipline and ensure site records are dependable.

· Develop junior team members through instruction, review and feedback.

Construction, Quality & Safety

· Monitor construction against approved drawings and specifications.

· Monitor manpower, materials, work fronts and productivity.

· Implement and monitor QAP / ITPs / checklists.

· Inspect workmanship and materials.

· Track NCRs, defects and corrective actions.

· Escalate significant safety or quality concerns immediately.

Programme, Design & Technical Coordination

· Monitor actual site progress against programme.

· Identify slippage, constraints and root causes.

· Recommend recovery actions to the Project Lead.

· Review drawings and technical submissions.

· Raise RFIs and coordinate technical resolution through the prescribed route.

· Identify recurring technical issues that may inform Gray Matter's Construction Intelligence.

Commercial & Reporting

· Verify measurements and review contractor bills within assigned responsibilities.

· Identify variations and potential claims.

· Provide accurate site information for commercial decisions.

· Provide reliable daily/weekly site intelligence to the Project Lead.

· Maintain accurate site information in GM-Sync / prescribed project systems.

· Ensure site information is factual, current and traceable.

Direct Senior Management Access

· Direct access remains available for critical safety, ethical, contractual, financial, technical or Client matters; matters specifically requested by senior management; or where normal escalation is not reasonably available.

· Where practicable, the Project Lead should be kept informed.

· Direct escalation does not remove the Senior PE's obligation to maintain the project reporting structure.

Expected Level of Independence

· Independently leads the site team and resolves routine construction issues.

· Needs support mainly for complex, strategic or cross-functional matters.

· Respects Project Lead authority while retaining professional and technical judgement.

· Is expected to challenge unsafe, technically unsound or materially risky directions rather than silently complying.

What Good Looks Like

· Site is controlled rather than merely observed.

· Project Lead receives accurate information before issues become project crises.

· Junior team understands priorities and standards.

· Quality, safety and programme risks are actively managed.

· The site team can function effectively without daily intervention from the Founder.

Qualifications & Experience

· Degree/diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline preferred.

· Substantial site/construction/PMC experience.

· Experience leading site teams or major work packages preferred.
