About The Team And The Role
Identity is foundational to how users safely access and interact with eBay's global marketplace. The Identity team owns the core systems and workflows that power account creation, authentication, account security, different account models and trust signals across millions of buyers and sellers worldwide. As eBay continues to evolve its platform and expand its ecosystem, identity is increasingly delivered as a platform capability (Identity-as-a-Service) that enables secure and seamless experiences across products, devices, and partners and evolves from single-user accounts to multi-user, role-based identity systems supporting families and teams.
We're hiring a Senior Product Manager to join the Identity product team and lead the end-to-end buyer registration and activation funnel — from first touch and progressive onboarding through first purchase — with a dual mandate: increase conversion while reducing fraud and friction.
Core Responsibilities
- Drive buyer-side registration, progressive capture, account verification gating and the first-purchase activation experience. Design and run experiments to increase registration completion and buyer activation while reducing bot/synthetic signups.
- Use data, experimentation, and customer insights to identify friction points and prioritize improvements across the journey.
- Partner closely with Security, Fraud/Risk, Payments, Trust & Safety, Design and Legal to implement secure, compliant experiences.
- Instrument and own buyer onboarding KPIs and data-driven experiment cycles.
- Maintain a prioritized backlog and clear acceptance criteria.
Required Experience & Skills
- 7+ years product management experience, ideally in consumer onboarding, registration, or identity-related products.
- Track record designing flows that balance fraud prevention, ease-of-use and global UX consistency (including progressive profiling / necessary stepup verification flows).
- Track record designing elegant, mobile-first onboarding experiences that minimize friction, increase activation, and scale globally. Comfortable running usability studies, prototyping flows with Design and iterating on UX based on qualitative feedback.
- Experience optimizing sign-up → first purchase/listing funnels and owning activation metrics (activation rate, time-to-first-purchase, onboarding NPS).
- Familiarity with fraud mitigation, progressive profiling, and modern auth patterns as well as AI/ML for signal enrichment (fraud models, behavioral scoring), behavioral biometrics.
- Strong experimentation and analytics skills; experience collaborating with cross functional teams
- Proven ability to influence engineers, security, fraud, payments, design and legal partners; decisive, with strong stakeholder management in multi-team environments.
- Hands-on AI + prototyping - Practical experience using AI/LLM tools to prototype product ideas, generate UX copy/logic, and accelerate discovery. Comfortable building interactive UI prototypes in Figma/tools and converting those prototypes into engineering-ready artifacts.
