Position Overview

As we transition from a world of files to that of products powered by cloud data services, we're building our core underlying cloud fabric and kernel that is comprised of massively scalable, always-on, globally deployed cloud services that underpin our customer facing systems. In order to provide a seamless cloud data experience for our customers we're building a platform that bridges existing products and solutions with our cloud data platform.

We are seeking a highly proficient Sr. Principal software engineer to partner in building our data interoperability platform. The successful candidate should have a strong sense of ownership and possess multiple past experiences of driving projects through completion. They should be well versed in building customer-facing products, scalable cloud-based solutions, and developer-centric APIs and components.

Responsibilities:

  • Defineand evangelize technical visionacrossthe division, shaping thefuture of making things througharchitecturalstandards, technologyroadmaps, and strategic direction

  • Own end-to-end architecturefor mission-critical systems and platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and alignment with long-term business objectives

  • Driveorganizational technical strategybycollaborating with seniorleadership, product management, and cross-functional executivesto translatebusiness goalsinto technical initiatives

  • Lead and influencetechnical decision-makingacrossmultipleteamsand domains, establishingarchitecturalpatternsand best practices thatscaleacross the organization

  • Build and nurture strategicpartnershipswith platformteams, external partners, and industry stakeholders to ensure alignmentand leverageofshared capabilities

  • Championengineering excellencebydefiningqualitystandards, establishingtechnicalgovernance, and drivingadoptionof best practices organization-wide

  • Deliverhands-on technical leadershipfor complex, high-impact systemsthat performat scale, whilebalancing strategic responsibilitieswith execution

  • Writeexemplary codethat sets thestandard for quality, testing, readability, and maintainability across theorganization

  • Lead technical duediligencefor build vs. buy decisions, technologyadoption, and criticalarchitectural reviews

  • Driveinnovationby identifying emerging technologies, evaluatingtheir applicability, and leadingproof-of-concept initiatives thatcreatecompetitive advantage

  • Mentor and growseniorengineersincludingotherPrincipals, fostering technicalleadershipcapabilitiesacrossthe organization

  • Represent Autodesk externallyatconferences, standards bodies, and industry forumsas arecognized technical authority

  • Participatein and helpdefineon-call escalation processesforproduction systems, ensuring organizationalresilience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Exceptionalcollaborator and technical leader with12+ years of total industry experience

  • 10+ years of software developmentwith demonstrated expertise across the full product development lifecycle

  • Expert-level understandingof concurrent programming, multi-threading, distributed systems, and performance optimization forlarge-scale data processing

  • Proven track recordof designingand evolving APIs and platformcapabilitiesconsumed by multiple teamsand externalpartners

  • Strong experiencewith build automation, CI/CD pipelines, and developer experience optimizationatscale

  • Demonstrated abilityto influencetechnical direction across organizationalboundaries withoutdirect authority

  • Trackrecord ofdeliveringhigh-impacttechnicalinitiativesthat measurably improved businessoutcomes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deepexperiencearchitecting solutionsonAWSorothermajorcloud platforms atenterprisescale

  • Experiencebuildinghigh-performanceservicesorsystemsin languages such as C#, Java, or C++

  • Domainexpertisein CAD, 3D/2D Geometry, computationalgeometry, or graphicsprogramming

  • Experience building softwareforAEC and Manufacturing industrieswith understandingof industry-specific challengesand workflows

  • Trackrecord ofleadingcommunity-driven libraries, SDKs, open-source projects, or developerplatformswithexternaladoption

  • Experienceinfluencing industrystandardsorcontributingto technicalcommunitiesbeyond theorganization

  • Priorexperiencementoring Principal-level engineersor leading technical guilds/communities ofpractice
