Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily pharmacy operations ensuring smooth dispensing and distribution of medicines.
  • Implement and monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for pharmacy processes.
  • Ensure compliance with drug storage, handling, and security protocols.
  • Supervise pharmacy staff including pharmacists, assistants, and interns.
  • Manage procurement activities in collaboration with the Procurement department.
  • Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, and batch recalls.
  • Conduct regular stock audits and manage inventory to minimize wastage and stock-outs.
  • Implement inventory management systems (e.g., automated dispensing, ERP integration).
  • Ensure all pharmaceutical products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC teams for inspection and validation of received medicines.
  • Maintain compliance with NABH, JCI, and local drug control regulations.
  • Facilitate audits related to pharmacy operations and supply chain.
  • Liaise with approved vendors for procurement, negotiate prices, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and compliance.
  • Assist in pharmacy budget planning related to procurement and operational expenses.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality and report variances to management.
  • Conduct training programs on inventory management, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Mentor junior pharmacists and support staff to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with clinical teams to ensure availability of critical medicines.
  • Coordinate with hospital departments for smooth patient care and drug supply.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) – Mandatory
  • Master's in Pharmacy (M.Pharm) – Preferred
  • 8–10years of progressive experience in hospital pharmacy operations and supply chain management, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or senior-level role in Preferred in tertiary care hospitals.
  • Strong background in inventory control, medication distribution systems, procurement, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Leading pharmacy operations (inpatient, outpatient, central pharmacy, stores).
    • Managing pharmacy procurement and supplier relationships.
    • Implementing or managing ERP/supply chain software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Mediware, McKesson).
    • Handling drug formulary management, cost control, and drug utilization reviews.
    • Navigating drug shortage scenarios and emergency procurement strategies.
    • Working with accreditation standards (e.g., JCI, NABH, ISO).
