Our Team:

Sanofi India is seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Manager – Taxation to lead and manage the company's end-to-end tax function across direct tax, indirect tax, and transfer pricing. The role is pivotal in ensuring full statutory compliance while driving proactive tax planning and advisory to support Sanofi's business objectives in India. The incumbent will serve as a key finance business partner, working closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to manage tax risks and optimize the company's tax position. This is a leadership role that requires a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong stakeholder management skills within a fast-paced multinational pharmaceutical environment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Direct Tax

Manage corporate income tax computations, advance tax workings, and ensure timely payment of taxes

Oversee TDS/TCS compliance including monthly payments, quarterly return filings (Form 24Q, 26Q, 27Q), and issuance of certificates

Prepare and file annual income tax returns and related forms (e.g., Form 3CEB, 3CD, 29B)

Lead tax assessments and manage scrutiny proceedings before Assessing Officers, CIT(A), and ITAT

Monitor and manage tax litigation portfolio; coordinate with external counsel for appeals and hearings

Track legislative changes and assess their impact on the company's tax position

  • Indirect Tax (GST)

Oversee end-to-end GST compliance including preparation and filing of GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9, and GSTR-9C

Manage GST audits, departmental inquiries, and notices; coordinate responses with external advisors

Drive GST refund claims (export refunds, inverted duty structure) and follow up for timely processing

Provide advisory on GST implications for new business initiatives, contracts, and supply chain arrangements

Ensure accurate input tax credit (ITC) reconciliation and compliance with anti-profiteering provisions

  • Transfer Pricing

Prepare and maintain comprehensive Transfer Pricing (TP) documentation including Master File, Local File, and Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR)

Conduct benchmarking analysis and ensure arm's length pricing for all intercompany transactions

Manage TP audits and assessments; liaise with external TP advisors and tax authorities

Review intercompany agreements and ensure alignment with TP policies and OECD guidelines

Monitor changes in Indian TP regulations and BEPS developments and assess business impact

  • Tax Planning & Advisory

Identify and implement tax optimization opportunities in compliance with applicable laws

Provide tax advisory on business transactions, new product launches, contracts, and commercial arrangements

Support M&A, restructuring, and integration activities from a tax due diligence and structuring perspective

Advise on withholding tax implications for cross-border payments and treaty benefits

Collaborate with the global tax team on international tax matters impacting India operations

  • Regulatory & Statutory Compliance

Liaise with income tax authorities, GST authorities, and other regulatory bodies

Manage and respond to tax notices, show cause notices, and information requests in a timely manner

Represent the company at hearings before tax authorities and appellate forums

Maintain a comprehensive tracker of all ongoing litigation, notices, and compliance deadlines

Ensure compliance with FEMA, RBI regulations, and other applicable statutes as relevant to the tax function

  • Financial Reporting & Tax Accounting

Support preparation of current and deferred tax provisions under Ind AS 12 / IAS 12

Ensure accurate tax disclosures in standalone and consolidated financial statements

Coordinate with statutory auditors and internal auditors on tax-related matters

Maintain tax balance sheet reconciliations and support quarterly/annual closing processes

Provide tax inputs for budgeting, forecasting, and effective tax rate (ETR) analysis

  • Stakeholder Management

Partner with Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, Commercial, and HR teams to provide proactive tax guidance

Manage relationships with external tax advisors, Big 4 firms, and legal counsel

Coordinate with the global/regional tax team on cross-border matters and group reporting requirements

Present tax updates, risk assessments, and planning opportunities to senior leadership

  • Team Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop junior tax professionals within the team

Foster a culture of continuous learning, compliance excellence, and accountability

Delegate responsibilities effectively and ensure quality review of all tax deliverables

Build team capability through training on evolving tax laws and best practices

About You

Education

Chartered Accountant (CA) – mandatory

Experience

  • 8–12 years of relevant tax experience
  • Industry Preference
  • Multinational corporation or Big 4 public accounting firm; pharma/life sciences sector is a plus

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong command of Indian direct tax laws, GST, transfer pricing regulations, and Ind AS / IFRS Systems
  • Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems; working knowledge of tax compliance tools

Additional Qualification

LLB or postgraduate degree in taxation is an added advantage
