- Transition monitoring practices from reactive issue identification toward proactive detection, prevention and automated remediation.
- Lead technology evaluation and rationalization of the observability ecosystem, balancing capability, scalability, operational effectiveness and cost.
- Monitoring Platform & Tooling Ownership
- Provide technical leadership for enterprise monitoring and observability platforms.
- Establish standards for instrumentation, telemetry collection, dashboards and visualization.
- Drive monitoring onboarding for new applications, platforms and infrastructure.
- Ensure monitoring coverage supports application, infrastructure and cloud-layer visibility.
- Improve tool integration, scalability, maintainability and automation.
- Establish governance around monitoring configuration and lifecycle management.
- Alerting & Proactive Reliability
- Establish enterprise standards for actionable alerts, thresholds and escalation.
- Drive alert tuning and alert hygiene, reducing unnecessary operational noise.
- Identify monitoring blind spots and systematically improve monitoring coverage.
- Ensure appropriate runbooks and response guidance exist for actionable alerts.
- Partner with SRE and engineering teams to automate response to repeatable failure conditions.
- Improve early detection of application and infrastructure degradation.
- SLI, SLO & Service Health Management
- Partner with application and service owners to establish meaningful SLIs and SLOs for critical services.
- Develop dashboards and reporting that provide clear visibility into availability, reliability, capacity and performance.
- Establish service-health views that enable both engineering teams and technology leadership to understand operational risk.
- Use reliability data to identify recurring issues and prioritize engineering improvements.
- Cloud & Hybrid Observability
- Develop observability standards that work consistently across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Drive comprehensive monitoring coverage across applications, infrastructure, databases, containers and cloud services.
- Partner with Cloud Platform, Application SRE, DevEx and engineering teams to embed observability into platform and application lifecycle practices.
- Ensure new services are instrumented and operationally observable before production adoption.
- Automation & Engineering
- Champion an automation-first approach to monitoring provisioning, configuration and remediation.
- Reduce repetitive operational work through engineering and automation.
- Promote monitoring and observability as code wherever technically appropriate.
- Partner with platform engineering teams to integrate observability into infrastructure and deployment workflows.
- Identify opportunities to automate detection, diagnostics, escalation and recovery.
- Incident Management & Continuous Improvement
- Enable rapid incident detection, diagnosis and service restoration through high-quality telemetry and dashboards.
- Partner closely with incident-management and SRE teams during critical production events.
- Use incident and root-cause findings to identify observability gaps and improve monitoring coverage.
