Qira, our crossdevice Personal AI platform. As part of this transformation, we are hiring an
Android System Design Manager to lead the architecture and design of
OS system components on Android, specifically the layers that sit between
native Android frameworks and vendor HALs across Lenovo and Motorola devices.
This role is central to delivering consistent, scalable, and secure system capabilities that support ondevice AI and advanced device experiences. You will guide technical direction, drive system integration, and develop a strong engineering team that delivers highquality platform components.
What You'll Do
- Lead system architecture and design for Androidbased OS components that sit between the framework and vendor HAL layers.
- Define and evolve middleware, system services, and platform abstractions that enable consistent device capabilities across Lenovo Motorola products.
- Drive the integration of Android middleware with vendor HALs (audio, camera, sensors, connectivity, neural accelerators, etc.).
- Collaborate with product, AI, silicon, and firmware teams to ensure cohesive and scalable system designs.
- Deliver solutions that meet strict performance, reliability, latency, and power objectives across diverse hardware platforms.
- Oversee technical execution, including design reviews, platform bringup, system debugging, and integration readiness.
- Manage and grow a team of system engineers, ensuring strong execution and talent development.
- Stay current with Android platform evolution, systemlevel best practices, and emerging device capabilities.
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of handson experience in Android platform, HAL, or middleware development.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
- 3+ years of peoplemanagement experience, leading system or platform engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of Android system architecture, including framework system service HAL interactions.
- Proficiency in C/C++ for native system components and Java/Kotlin for frameworkfacing layers.
- Proven experience designing and shipping systemlevel components on consumer devices (Android phones, tablets, PCs, or IoT).
- Deep knowledge of OS fundamentals: processes, memory management, IPC, performance, power, and security.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams through technical architecture, crosslayer debugging, and production readiness.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate product requirements into scalable system architecture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AIDL, Binder IPC, Android system services, or HAL bringup.
- Master's Degree in Engineering is preferred.
- Background working with silicon vendors and integrating vendor HAL extensions.
- Familiarity with systemlevel support for AIenabled features (sensors, pipelines, model execution, data flows).
- Experience with modular or updatable system components (APEX/Mainline or OEMlevel equivalents).
- Strong problemsolving skills in crosslayer issues spanning framework, middleware, native daemons, and vendor HALs.
- Passion for system architecture, code quality, and building clean, maintainable abstractions across hardware and software.
