As we continue to scale across 20+ countries, we are looking for a Payroll Manager who can take complete ownership of payroll operations and ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for a large and growing workforce.
Role Overview
In this role, you will own and drive end-to-end payroll operations for full-time employees, consultants, and interns. You will lead the payroll team, build strong processes and controls, and ensure every payroll cycle is executed with high accuracy, compliance, and operational discipline. You will also work closely with HR Operations, Finance, and Compliance teams to ensure smooth payroll closure every month.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage end-to-end monthly payroll processing across employee categories.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant payroll closure for a large employee base.
- Lead and manage the payroll team, ensuring clear ownership and strong execution.
- Build and maintain payroll SOPs, process documentation, and maker-checker controls.
- Run a comprehensive monthly payroll checklist covering attendance, variables, reimbursements, deductions, statutory components, and approvals.
- Ensure payroll accuracy through reconciliations, validations, and variance analysis before salary release.
- Manage statutory compliance including PF, PT, ESI, and income tax/TDS.
- Support payroll audits, compliance checks, and internal reviews.
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and payroll cost optimization.
- Handle payroll-related employee queries with ownership and clear turnaround timelines.
What We're Looking For
- 58+ years of payroll experience with strong end-to-end exposure.
- Experience managing payroll for 1000+ employees.
- Hands-on experience handling payroll for full-time employees, consultants, and interns.
- Experience managing a payroll team of 23 members or more.
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance and statutory regulations (PF, PT, ESI, TDS).
- Strong experience in payroll reconciliations, validations, and audit readiness.
- High proficiency in Excel and payroll/HRMS systems.
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
Preferred
- Experience driving payroll automation or process improvement initiatives.
- Exposure to cost optimization projects in payroll operations.
- Prior experience in startup, EdTech, internet, or high-growth companies.
