Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of electrical design engineers to ensure successful execution of electrical design projects.
- Provide technical guidance, support, and training to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Oversee the workload distribution within the team and ensure that engineers are effectively allocated to projects based on expertise and project needs.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and develop career growth plans for team members.
Electrical Design Oversight:
- Supervise the design of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, cabling, and control systems for a variety of projects.
- Ensure that electrical designs meet all client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory codes (e.g., NEC, IEC, local standards).
- Review and approve electrical design documents such as single-line diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Perform or oversee load calculations, short-circuit studies, and fault analysis as required for each project.
Project Management and Coordination:
- Manage multiple electrical design projects simultaneously, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines to define project scope, objectives, schedules, and budgets.
- Monitor project progress, address technical issues, and ensure that project milestones are achieved.
- Ensure all project deliverables are completed according to the design specifications, quality standards, and client expectations.
Client Relations and Stakeholder Communication:
- Act as the main point of contact for clients, ensuring that their requirements and expectations are met throughout the design process.
- Lead design reviews, project meetings, and discussions with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and resolve any issues.
- Develop and present project proposals, including cost estimates, timelines, and design solutions to clients and senior management.
Quality Control and Compliance:
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with safety regulations, codes, and industry standards, including environmental and sustainability considerations.
- Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure that all designs are accurate, reliable, and cost-effective.
- Perform design and constructability reviews to identify and mitigate potential risks during the project lifecycle.
Innovation and Process Improvement:
- Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering and design.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and the implementation of new technologies to improve project outcomes.
- Promote sustainable design practices and innovative solutions that enhance energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and contribute to environmentally responsible practices.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Oversee the preparation of electrical engineering budgets and manage the allocation of resources for design projects.
- Ensure that design projects remain within financial constraints, making recommendations for cost-saving measures while maintaining quality.
- Review and approve purchase orders for electrical equipment and materials, ensuring that procurement is in line with project specifications and timelines.
Risk Management and Issue Resolution:
- Identify and mitigate risks related to electrical design, including technical, safety, and environmental risks.
- Resolve any design-related issues that arise during the construction phase or post-installation.
- Ensure that appropriate risk management strategies are in place to prevent project delays or budget overruns.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of all design documentation, including drawings, specifications, reports, and progress reports.
- Review and approve design documentation and ensure compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards.
- Prepare and present regular status reports to senior management on project progress, key challenges, and project outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a specialized field is preferred.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in electrical design engineering, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Skills:
- Strong expertise in electrical design principles, including power distribution, control systems, lighting, and electrical protection.
- Proficient in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of local, national, and international electrical codes and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC, IEEE).
- Solid experience in managing large-scale electrical design projects from inception to completion.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage a team and interact with clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
- Problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges and issues.
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) for electrical design is a plus.
