Why This Role Exists
Trading interfaces have zero margin for latency, rendering errors, or unreliable data. Traders spend six hours a day inside it. This role owns the entire web frontend. You set the architectural foundation for how every page is built, how state flows, how data streams, and how the UI holds up under load. All of it is data-dense, real-time, and unforgiving of sloppy implementation.
What You'll Own:
- Core Trading Workspace: Market Overview, Stock Page, Option Chain, Strategy Builder, Backtesting, Portfolio, Trade Journal, Watchlist. Data-heavy, real-time, performance-critical.
- Dashboard & Widget System: A FlexLayout-powered workspace with live, draggable, resizable widgets. Traders build their own decision cockpit.
- AI Interaction UX: The natural language query interface - conversational UI, streaming responses, data visualization widgets that render instantly as AI computes.
- Real-Time Data Layer: WebSocket integration for live market data, portfolio updates, alert triggers, and AI response streaming.
- Design System: Build TRADL's frontend design system from scratch (option chains, order books, payoff diagrams, responsive layouts).
- Performance Engineering: Virtual scrolling for AG Grid tables with thousands of rows. Core Web Vitals targets: <2s LCP, <100ms FID.
What We're Looking For:
- 4–6 years in frontend engineering with React + TypeScript as primary stack.
- 3+ years at a startup - you've shipped under pressure, owned features end to end, and dealt with the mess of moving fast.
- Real-time data visualization experience. You've built dashboards that update at sub-second intervals without frame drops.
- State management at scale - Zustand, Redux, or Jotai. You know when to reach for which and why.
- TanStack Query for server state. WebSocket integration experience, reconnection logic, subscription management, binary data parsing.
- AG Grid or equivalent data grid experience.
Bonus Points
- FlexLayout, react-grid-layout, or experience building draggable dashboard systems
- Plotly.js or complex data visualization libraries
- Performance optimization for data-heavy UIs at production scale
- Experience building trading terminals or analytical interfaces
