Job Description
We are modernizing our legacy data pipelines by replacing DTS/VBScript-based ETL with modern ETL using SSIS, T-SQL, and Azure Data Factory. Depending on business needs, migrations may follow either a DTS SSIS ADF path or a direct DTS ADF approach.
We are seeking a strong ETL Engineer who can lead these migrations, optimize performance, and help us establish best practices for both on-premises and cloud ETL pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of legacy DTS/VBScript packages to SSIS and/or Azure Data Factory pipelines, using T-SQL where required.
- Re-architect ETL flows for reliability, scalability, and performance (incremental/bulk loads, CDC, SCDs).
- Design and implement ADF pipelines and mapping data flows, and build SSIS packages where required.
- Build and operationalize version-controlled ETL pipelines with Azure DevOps CI/CD and monitoring.
- Collaborate with DBAs, application teams, and product owners to ensure low-risk, high-quality migrations.
- Create reusable ETL templates, patterns, and best practices for both SSIS and ADF.
- Deliver measurable improvements in data quality, runtime efficiency, and maintainability.
Required Skills
- SSIS expertise: SSDT/Visual Studio, control/data flow design, logging, error handling.
- Azure Data Factory expertise: pipelines, mapping data flows, linked services, triggers, monitoring.
- T-SQL: stored procedures, set-based logic, indexing, query tuning.
- Proven experience with ETL modernization/migration (e.g., DTS/VBScript to SSIS and/or ADF).
- Familiarity with CI/CD and deployment automation (Git, Azure DevOps, SSISDB, ADF release pipelines).
- Strong understanding of incremental loads, CDC, SCDs, performance tuning, and monitoring.
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Nice To Have
- C# skills: for script tasks/components and integration logic.
- Azure Data certifications (DP-203, DP-300, etc.).
