What You'll Do
- Lead and execute mechanical design and development activities for Medium Voltage distribution products, including Switchgear, Transformers, Voltage Regulators, Capacitors, Network Protectors, and related electrical components.
- Execute projects through all stages of the product development lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, validation, industrialization, and sustaining support.
- Apply DfX methodologies (DFMEA, DFMA, DFR, tolerance stack‑up, reliability) to ensure robust, manufacturable, and serviceable product designs.
- Independently complete 2D drawings and 3D models using Inventor / Pro‑E (Creo) / AutoCAD.
- Support and witness type and validation testing, including Temperature Rise, Fault Current, High Voltage, Mechanical Endurance, Impact, and Vibration testing, as per applicable standards.
- Analyze test results and provide engineering judgment on design, material, or component changes and their impact on product performance, reliability, and compliance.
- Develop and support test plans in accordance with IEC / IEEE standards (e.g., IEC 62271 series).
- Utilize strong knowledge of metals and plastics to propose alternative materials and manufacturing processes.
- Provide engineering judgment on the impact of material or process changes from cost, testing, certification, and product performance perspectives.
- Drive and support VAVE initiatives focused on cost reduction, localization, design simplification, and alternate manufacturing processes.
- Lead or support production feasibility assessments, PPAP, and manufacturing readiness activities.
- Modify existing products through the formal Change Management process to meet customer, manufacturing, regulatory, and market requirements.
- Support resolution of field, quality, and manufacturing issues using structured problem‑solving methodologies (DMAIC, Root Cause Analysis).
- Ensure sustained product compliance and performance across the product lifecycle.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute complex engineering projects, ensuring on‑time delivery, quality, and cost objectives.
- Collaborate with global, cross‑functional teams, including Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Testing Labs, and external suppliers.
- Operate effectively in a virtual, global engineering environment and provide regular technical updates to stakeholders.
- Develop direct reports by providing challenging assignments, technical coaching, and structured development plans.
- Contribute to building a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement within the engineering organization.
Qualifications
Education level required : Bachelor's/Master's degree in engineering in Mechanical
Years and area of experience required : 6–9 years of relevant engineering experience in NPI/NTI, VAVE, and Sustaining Engineering.
- Strong experience with Medium Voltage distribution products, preferably MV Switchgear.
- Hands‑on experience with Inventor and AutoCAD (Pro‑E / Creo preferred).
- Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering projects across the product development lifecycle.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt (DMAIC) certification.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and technical decision‑making skills.
- Experience working with IEC / IEEE standards for MV products.
- Experience proposing alternate manufacturing processes for cost reduction.
- Strong understanding of electro‑mechanical systems, tolerance stack‑ups, and structural design.
- Proven ability to work effectively in global, cross‑functional teams.
- Demonstrated capability to generate innovative concepts and system/sub‑system improvements.
Technical Knowledge
- Sound technical knowledge in electromechanical products like Medium Voltage Regulator, Switchgear, Circuit breakers, protection equipment etc.
- Strong mechanical technical knowledge on materials, Structural, Thermal calculations and physical testing
- Understanding of relevant industry standards and how they apply to the product
- Monitor progress and achievements on projects. Provide timely status and reports to stakeholders.
