As a Functional SME, the IT Configuration Manager operates with a high degree of independence and accountability across the CMDB ecosystem. This role provides architectural leadership, governance oversight, and process stewardship to ensure CMDB integrity, CSDM alignment, and enterprise-wide data quality.
The individual serves as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned CMDB domains, contributes to strategic direction, mentors team members, and drives continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational maturity and automation.

Key Responsibilities
.Own assigned CMDB domains, including CI classes, attributes, relationships, reconciliation rules, and governance controls
.Provide architectural guidance aligned with CSDM standards and ServiceNow best practices
.Enable and guide CI Owners to maintain Configuration Item accuracy, lifecycle governance, and data integrity
.Drive auditing, validation, status accounting, and reporting of CMDB performance metrics (OKRs/KPIs)
.Lead complex CMDB initiatives and represent the team in cross-functional programs involving Incident, Change, and Problem Management
.Evaluate and challenge existing processes, identify gaps, and execute sustainable improvements
.Drive transformation of CMDB intake and operational queues through automation and AI-enabled solutions, reducing manual effort, improving data accuracy, and increasing throughput efficiency while maintaining SLA adherence
.Develop training materials and simplify complex CMDB/CSDM concepts for technical and non-technical audiences
.Mentor peers and lower bands provide functional leadership and support during manager absence when required

Required Skills & Experience
.10+ years of CMDB operational experience in large, complex enterprise environments
.5+ years of hands-on ServiceNow experience, including Discovery, Service Mapping, IRE, reconciliation, and reporting
.Strong understanding of CMDB architecture, CSDM framework, and ITIL/ITSM processes
.Experience managing server (hardware extended), network (network extended), database, printer, and web application CIs
.Demonstrated ability to lead process improvement initiatives and influence cross-functional stakeholders
.Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills
.Ability to prioritize effectively and operate independently with minimal direction

Education
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience

Preferred Qualifications
.ITIL Foundation Certification
.Certified ServiceNow Administrator (CSA)
.CSDM training or certification
.Experience leveraging automation and AI capabilities within ServiceNow or similar platforms
