Educational Qualifications:
University degree, with a major in a teaching subject
Post Graduate Diploma in Education (an advantage)
Work Experience:
At least 5 years teaching and/or editorial experience content-, language- and
copy-editing
At least 2-3 years project management experience able to handle several
projects and to multi-task
In addition to the prerequisites of an Editor:
Able to work with and lead a team of editors
Strong interest in materials development in education and in meeting
educational needs through print and electronic material
Meticulous and yet able to have big picture in mind
RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
1. Management of Team Operations
Work with supervisor to assign projects to and monitor workload of team members
Keep track of work progress and timeliness
Mentor new editors on basic processes and skills
Identify best practices to improve efficiency and productivity
Work with vendors/freelancers to develop processes, styles and determine modes of
communications
Carry out handovers for projects
Source for freelancers
Conduct regular project updates with supervisor
2. Project Management
Evaluate sample chapters
Propose formats, components and other aspects of the titles
Conduct initial briefings for new projects
Ensure projects progress according to scheduled timeline
Ensure planned expenses (photographs and illustrations) fall within budget and/or
suggesting alternatives
Suggest viable solutions for problems during development process in consultation
with supervisor
3. Project Development
Content-edit manuscripts to ensure that relevant syllabus points have been covered
Assume the role of Editor for certain projects
Work with editors to plan schedules based on project milestones
Provide direction on look and design of materials in consultation with supervisor and
designers

Work closely with Sales and Marketing departments to ensure that books are relevant
to target market
Guide editors on pedagogical content development and appropriate pitching
Review and approve edited manuscripts, proofs, covers etc and conduct discussions
with editors/authors whenever necessary
Check freelance editors work to ensure quality in content and format
Review artwork and photo briefs prepared by editors
Monitor purchases and payments based on approved budgets
Assist supervisor in the writing of prefaces and blurbs
Pass titles for press
Review and approve changes to reprints and ozalids/blueprints checked by editors
4. Marketing/Market Research
Gather market intelligence and trends
Review competitors titles with the objective of identifying USPs for our products
5. Administrative and Others
Assist Managing Editor in the preparation of budgets
Undertake the administrative aspects of a project (forms, etc)
Attend to enquiries from various departments pertaining to project administration
matters
