Job Title: Sr. Design Engineer
Location: PUNE
Experience: 3-6 years
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Associate to join our engineering team. This role involves advanced mechanical design, focusing on powertrain components and assemblies. The ideal candidate will contribute to product development from initial concept through to production support, ensuring designs are optimized for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
Job Description: 1. Develop precise 3D CAD models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings for critical components such as gears, shafts, casings, and bearings. 2. Design and optimize mechanical layouts for complex systems including transaxles, differentials, and final drive assemblies. 3. Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles rigorously to all designs to ensure manufacturing accuracy and functional performance. 4. Ensure all designs align with manufacturing capabilities, assembly constraints, and specified weight targets. 5. Identify and implement opportunities for Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VA/VE) to achieve significant product cost reductions. 6. Maintain or enhance system performance, durability, and quality while actively optimizing material usage across designs. 7. Evaluate and recommend alternative manufacturing processes, such as transitioning from forging to casting, to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness. 8. Collaborate effectively with sourcing teams to benchmark and validate lower-cost alternative components without compromising quality. 9. Provide immediate and effective engineering support to the shop floor to resolve assembly line issues and maintain production flow.
Skills and Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field. - 3-6 years of progressive experience in mechanical design and product development, preferably within the automotive or heavy equipment industry. - Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD software for modeling and 2D drawing creation. - Strong expertise in designing mechanical layouts for powertrain components (transaxles, differentials, final drives). - In-depth knowledge and practical application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). - Solid understanding of various manufacturing processes, assembly constraints, and material properties. - Proven experience with Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VA/VE) methodologies. - Ability to evaluate and recommend alternative manufacturing processes for cost and performance optimization. - Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to provide timely engineering support in a production environment. - Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.
