Job Summary
Kuche7 is looking for a highly experienced
Sr. Design Engineer – R&D who can take ownership of
design execution and product development for modular kitchen and furniture systems.
The role requires strong expertise in
design engineering, NPD support, and factory coordination, with the ability to lead projects independently and guide junior designers. The candidate will act as a
bridge between R&D, Design, and Production teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Execution
- Lead development of detailed 2D/3D designs and engineering drawings
- Own design of carcass systems, shutters, accessories, and modular units
- Ensure designs are accurate, standardized, and production-ready
- Review and approve drawings prepared by junior designers
New Product Development (NPD)
- Take ownership of design side of NPD projects
- Convert concepts into prototypes and final production designs
- Drive design standardization and modularization
- Ensure timely completion of development timelines
Manufacturing & Factory Integration
- Ensure feasibility for sheet metal fabrication (laser cutting, bending, welding)
- Work closely with Production, Paint, QC, and Stores teams
- Lead trial runs, prototype validation, and first production batches
- Resolve complex shop-floor design issues
BOM, Costing & Optimization
- Prepare and validate BOM / BOQ / MBOM
- Work on cost optimization and value engineering
- Ensure designs meet cost targets without compromising quality
Material & Hardware Expertise
- Strong working knowledge of SS, MS, Aluminium, boards, laminates, glass
- Select and validate hardware fittings (hinges, channels, accessories)
- Ensure correct material and finish selection (powder coating, PVD, etc.)
Team Handling & Mentorship
- Guide and mentor junior design engineers and R&D team members
- Allocate work, review output, and ensure quality and timelines
- Build strong coordination between design and factory teams
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Improve existing products based on production feedback and market needs
- Work on design simplification, durability, and installation efficiency
- Support R&D Manager in innovation and new product ideas
Pre-Requisites (Must-Have)
Qualification
- B.E / B.Tech - Mechanical Engineering
Experience
- 6–12 years in Design / R&D
- Strong experience in modular kitchen / furniture / sheet metal industry
- Proven experience in handling end-to-end design execution
Technical Skills
- Expert in AutoCAD / SolidWorks (must)
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal design & fabrication processes
- Hands-on experience in BOM / BOQ / MBOM preparation
- Understanding of production constraints and installation challenges
