The Senior Customs Supervisor will lead customs compliance and operational execution for import and export transactions, ensuring adherence to applicable customs laws, foreign trade regulations, and internal governance requirements. The role requires strong expertise in customs tariff classification, customs valuation, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and regulatory frameworks relating to STPI and SEZ operations. This position will work closely with internal stakeholders, customs brokers, logistics partners, and government authorities to enable compliant, efficient, and cost-effective cross-border movement of goods.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise end-to-end customs compliance activities for import and export shipments, ensuring timely clearance and full adherence to applicable regulations.
  • Review and validate customs tariff classification, valuation methodology, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Drive effective utilization of applicable Free Trade Agreements by assessing eligibility, maintaining supporting documentation, and coordinating certificate or origin-related requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with STPI and SEZ regulations, including documentation, operational controls, reporting requirements, and coordination with relevant authorities.
  • Partner with customs brokers, freight forwarders, finance, procurement, supply chain, and operations teams to resolve shipment issues and reduce clearance delays.
  • Monitor regulatory updates, assess business impact, and implement process changes to maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Support customs audits, investigations, assessments, and internal reviews by maintaining complete and audit-ready records.
  • Identify compliance risks and process gaps, and recommend corrective and preventive actions to strengthen customs governance.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, and internal controls related to customs operations.
  • Guide and mentor team members on customs requirements, classification principles, valuation rules, FTA usage, and STPI/SEZ compliance expectations.
  • Prepare periodic reports and dashboards on customs compliance, operational performance, exceptions, and risk areas for management review.
  • Work with legal, tax, and trade compliance teams on interpretation of regulatory changes and issue resolution where required.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in customs compliance, trade compliance, import/export operations, or related cross-border regulatory functions.
  • Postgraduate degree in International Business, International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain, Law, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Strong practical knowledge of customs tariff classification and customs valuation principles.
  • Hands-on experience in applying and managing Free Trade Agreement requirements, including origin-related documentation and compliance controls.
  • Working knowledge of STPI and SEZ regulations, processes, and compliance obligations.
  • Experience coordinating with customs brokers, logistics service providers, and government or regulatory authorities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Law graduate preferred.
  • Experience in a multinational or large-scale manufacturing, technology, or industrial environment.
  • Exposure to customs audits, investigations, and post-clearance reviews.
  • Knowledge of SAP, ERP systems, or trade compliance tools used for customs documentation and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement, controls enhancement, and stakeholder management.
